Thermal Stresses, Stresses due to freely falling weight; Strain energy, Castigliano’s theorem, Strain energy of axially loaded bar and deformation using energy method. Lab Experiments: CO-1 1. Tension test on a bar BTL-3 2. Compression test on a wooden block Equipment Required: 1. Universal Testing Machine Suggested Readings: Stress and strain in an axially loaded member MODULE 2: STRESSES IN BEAMS (12L+6P) Shear force and bending moment diagram; Bending stresses in straight beams; Shear stress in transverse section of beams with symmetrical sections and unsymmetrical sections Lab Experiments: 3.
