1. Introduction:
This method statement outlines the procedure for the installation of
four SVGs in the AIS substation. The SVGs will be used to regulate
voltage and control reactive power, enhancing the power transmission
and distribution system's performance and stability.
2. Equipment and Materials:
• Four SVG units
• Mounting brackets and hardware
• Electrical cables and connectors
• Cable trays and supports
• Tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, cable cutters, etc.)
• Personal protective equipment (PPE)
3. Pre-Installation Activities:
a. Conduct a site survey to determine the optimal location for the SVG
installation, considering factors such as accessibility, clearance
requirements, and proximity to the equipment it will interact with.
b. Ensure that all necessary permits and approvals are obtained.
c. Prepare the AIS substation by ensuring the availability of power
supply, proper grounding, and a safe working environment.
d. Verify that the SVG units are in good condition and all required
accessories are available.
4. Installation Procedure:
a. Install the mounting brackets for each SVG unit at the predetermined
locations, following the manufacturer's guidelines and considering
structural integrity.
b. Mount the SVG units onto the brackets securely, ensuring proper
alignment and clearance requirements.
c. Connect the electrical cables to the input and output terminals of
each SVG unit, following the manufacturer's instructions and adhering to
electrical codes and standards.
d. Route the cables neatly and secure them using cable trays, supports,
and appropriate fasteners to maintain a safe and organized
environment.
e. Terminate the cables at the designated connection points within the
AIS substation, ensuring proper insulation, tight connections, and
adherence to electrical safety practices.
f. Perform a thorough inspection of the installed SVG units, brackets,
and cable connections to verify their integrity and compliance with
specifications.
5. Post-Installation Activities:
a. Conduct a comprehensive check of all installed SVG units to ensure
they are properly installed and functioning correctly.
b. Carry out necessary testing and commissioning activities as per the
manufacturer's recommendations and project requirements.
c. Record all relevant information, including SVG unit details, installation
dates, test results, and any observations or deviations encountered
during the installation process.
d. Provide appropriate training to the relevant personnel regarding the
operation, maintenance, and safety considerations associated with the
SVG units.
6. Safety Considerations:
a. Follow all applicable safety regulations and guidelines during the
installation process.
b. Ensure the use of appropriate PPE, such as safety glasses, gloves, and
safety shoes, to protect against potential hazards.
c. Take necessary precautions to prevent electrical shock, such as de-
energizing the equipment and following proper lockout/tagout
procedures.
d. Adhere to safe working practices, including proper lifting techniques
and the use of equipment and tools in a responsible manner.
Installation of Static Var Generator (SVG)
1. Project Information:
- Location: [Location]
2. Scope of Work:

- Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper mounting and connection of the SVG
equipment.
- Install the SVG equipment securely using suitable mounting brackets or supports.
- Connect the electrical cables to the SVG equipment, ensuring proper insulation and
termination.
- Identify and mark the locations for control and protection devices.
- Install the control and protection devices according to the approved layout and design.
- Connect control and communication cables to the SVG equipment and control devices.
- Program and configure the control devices according to the system requirements.
- Identify and verify the correct cable routing based on electrical diagrams and specifications.
- Install and connect the required electrical cables, ensuring proper insulation and
termination.
- Perform insulation resistance tests and continuity checks to ensure proper electrical
connections.
- Coordinate with the electrical testing team to conduct tests such as power factor correction,
voltage regulation, and harmonic analysis.
- Verify the functionality of control and protection devices, including settings and alarms.
- Document test results and ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Obtain necessary approvals and clearances before energizing the SVG system.
5. Safety Considerations:
- Ensure all personnel involved in the installation wear appropriate PPE, including helmets,
safety shoes, gloves, and high-visibility vests.
- Implement proper barricades and warning signs to prevent unauthorized access to the
installation area.
- Establish emergency procedures, including fire safety and evacuation plans.
6. Quality Control:
- Inspect the SVG equipment and control devices for any damages or defects before installation.
- Conduct quality checks during each installation phase to ensure compliance with standards
and specifications.
- Perform final inspections and tests to confirm proper installation and functionality of the SVG
system.
7. Environmental Considerations:
- Implement measures to prevent oil spills or leakages during the installation if applicable.
- Properly handle and dispose of any waste materials generated during the installation.
