Course Description and Course Objectives:

COURSE DESCRIPTION

ENGlogueis an English language course book for the students of first year of undergraduate courses studying in CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa. The book that
covers both Semesters I and II is built around fourteen contemporary themes, with each unit including two interesting and engaging reading texts. The texts are meant to trigger
not just the desired language-learning behaviors but also to engage the students in thinking about various pertinent issues concerning the world around them. Each unit also
includes teaching and tasks based on vocabulary, reading, writing and speaking. The overall objective of the book is to provide students with hands-on learning of language
skills, equipping them not only for their immediate academic needs but also for their future professional careers.

In addition to that a Workbook on Listening Skills based on the themes discussed in Englogue book is also prescribed. Students will have to download the Englogue app from
the Play store to carry out the tasks effectively. Exercises will be based on one long and one short audio comprising of 30 minutes and 15 minutes respectively. The following
activity on listening skills will be carried out during the class hours.

To illustrate the contextual use of words and the generic meaning to the learners.

To develop the ability to listen to audio content and infer contextual meaning.

To construct the ability to write for various purposes using suitable and precise language.

Additional Information

With each semester, the language and communication skills components will be progressively graded to aid development of skills that would help learners in day to day
communication and academic pursuits preparing them for their professional endeavours in future. Emphasis will be on all the basic skills of language and analysis and critical
appreciation of texts.

Evaluation Pattern

CIA 1: Classroom assignment/test for 20 marks keeping in tune with the course objectives and learning outcomes.

CIA 2: Mid-semester written exam for 50 marks. Part of it could be online test for grammar components.

CIA 3: Collage, tableaus, skits, talk shows, documentaries, Quizzes or any creative assignments.

Question Paper Pattern

This is a tentative pattern and is not restricted to only this.

The nature and scope of the course demands that the question papers are developed keeping in mind the future needs of the learners. Since most students are
preparing to write competitive exams of various kinds, the question papers will address that need.

Mid Semester Exam: 2 Hrs (part of it could be online for listening skills, grammar and vocabulary)
