Introduction to the Past Continuous
Tense

•What is the Past Continuous Tense?

•It describes actions that were happening at a specific time in the past.
•Why is it important?
•It helps us talk about actions that were in progress at a certain moment in the past.
•Example:
•"She was reading a book when I called." (Her action was happening when another action occurred.)
The Formula for Past Continuous

• Basic Formula:
• Subject + was/were + verb+ing
• Subject: This is who or what does the action (e.g., I, you, she, they).
• Was/Were: Use was for he, she, it, I and were for you, we, they.
• Verb+ing: The base verb with "-ing" added to the end (e.g., reading,
playing).
• Examples:
• "I was eating dinner."
• "They were watching TV."
