CLASS : XII DURATION : 3 HRS
General Instruction:
1. This question paper contains two parts A and B. Each part is compulsory. Part A carries 24
marks and Part B carries 56 marks
2. Part-A has Objective Type Questions and Part -B has Descriptive Type Questions
3. Both Part A and Part B have choices.

Part – A:
1. It consists of two sections- I and II.
2. Section I comprises of 16 very short answer type questions.
3. Section II contains 2 case studies. Each case study comprises of 5 case-based MCQs. An
examinee is to attempt any 4 out of 5 MCQs.

Part – B:
1. It consists of three sections- III, IV and V.
2. Section III comprises of 10 questions of 2 marks each.
3. Section IV comprises of 7 questions of 3 marks each.
4. Section V comprises of 3 questions of 5 marks each.
5. Internal choice is provided in 3 questions of Section –III, 2 questions of Section-IV and 3
questions of Section-V. You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.

PART - A

2. If a relation R on the set {1, 2, 3} be defined by R = {(1,2)}, then show that R is neither
reflexive, symmetric nor transitive.
Ans: Since (1, 1)  R, (2, 2)  R, (3, 3)  R, therefore R is not reflexive
Since (2, 1)  R, therefore R is neither symmetric nor transitive
Hence R is neither reflexive, symmetric nor transitive.

3. If R = {(a, a3): a is a prime number less than 5) be a relation. Find the range of R.
Ans: Range of R is {8, 27}

4. If A and B are symmetric matrices of same order, then show that (AB’ – BA’) is a skew
symmetric matrix.
Ans: (AB’ – BA’) = (AB’ – BA’) ’ = (AB’) ’ – (BA’) ’ = BA’ – AB’
= –(AB’ – BA’)
Hence, (AB’ – BA’) is a skew symmetric matrix.

19. Show that the points (a + 5, a – 4), (a – 2, a + 3) and (a, a) do not lie on a straight line for any
value of a.
Ans: Given, the points are (a + 5, a – 4),(a – 2, a + 3) and (a, a) .
We have to prove that these points do not lie on a straight line .
So, we have to prove that these points form a triangle .

22. Check whether the relation R defined on the set A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} as R = {(a, b): b = a + 1} is
a reflexive, symmetric or transitive.
Ans: Given, the relation R defined on the set A={1,2,3,4,5,6} as R={(a, b):b = a + 1}.
The relation is not reflexive as a =a+1, for any a∈A.
Also 3 = 2+1 but 2 ≠ 3+1 i.e. (2,3) ∈ R but (3,2)  R, so the relation is not symmetric.
Now, (2,3) ∈ R, (3,4) ∈ R but (2,4)  R since 3 = 2 + 1, 4 = 3 + 1 but 4 ≠ 2 + 1.
So, the relation is not transitive also.

32. A telephone company in a town has 500 subscribers on its list and collects fixed charge of Rs. 300
per subscriber per year. The company proposes to increase the annual subscription and it is
believed that for every increase of Rs. 1, one subscriber will discontinue the service. Find what
increase will bring maximum profit.
Ans: Consider that company increases the annual subscription by x
So, x subscribes will discontinue the service.
∴ Total revenue of company after the increment is given by
R(x) = (500-x)(300+x)
=-x2 + 200x + 150000
⇒ R'(x) = -2x + 200
R'(x) = 0
⇒ 2x = 200 ⇒ x = 100
Also R''(x) = -2 < 0
So,R(x) is maximum when x = 100
Hence, the company should increases the subscription fee 100, so that it has maximum profit.
