EXERCISE-5

1. Use the Financial Sample Data in Power BI


2. Transform the Data to check the quality of the data and missing
values under the View Tab.
3. Make sure for all Measures the data type is correctly defined
4. Create a Column “Product Group” as follows:
a. For Products -- Amarilla, Carretera and Montana Product Group
is Helicopter
b. For Products -- Paseo, Velo and VTT, Product Group is AirPlane
5. Go to Home Screen and Create a Quick Measure:
a. Calculation: Weighted Average Per Category
b. Base Value: Profit (Sum)
c. Weight: COGS
d. Category: Product Group
6. Create a Histogram (Frequency Chart) on Unit Sold. Right-click and
create New Group.
7. Create a Table with Product Group, Country and Profit. Change this
to Stacked Bar and see the power of Visual.
8. Change this again to Clustered Column Chart and Then to Geo Map.
Evaluate the difference.
9. Create a Product Group, Segment and Sales Table. Convert this into
Matrix.
10. Create Gross Profit by Product Group and Segment – Stacked
Bar and Change to Clustered Column.
11. Gross Sales by Year-Month and Product Group. Create Line
Chart and Change this to Area Chart.
12. Gross Profit By Country – Create Pie Chart, Change it to Donut
and to Tree Map.
13. Gross Profit by Year-Month – Create Pie Chart, Change it to
Donut and then to Tree Map.
14. Create Combination Chart for Gross Sales and Profit by
Product Group and Date.
15. Find what is the Total Profit – Use Card
16. Find Product Group wise Profit – Use Multi-Row Card
17. Gross Sales by Year – Create Funnel Chart
18. Create Gauge Chart with Gross Sales and Sales (Target Sales)
19. Create Product Group, Product and Profit Table and apply
Conditional Formatting to display Data Bars on Profit.
20. Duplicate the Chart created in Step 18 and icons using
Conditional Formatting
21. Create Line Chart by Product Group, Country and Profit. Now
move remove Country from the Line chart and add Country to small
Multiples.
22. Create a Table Visual to show Country, Product Group,
Segment and Profit. Add Slicer on Product Group
23. On a Frequency Chart created at Step 6, create a Narrative to
explain the chart.
24. Create a Narrative for Chart created at Step 7.
25. Go the View Tab and define Bookmark for Visual created at
step 6 & 7. Go to Visual created at step 20 and select bookmark to
jump to visual of step 6.
26. Add a Navigation Button (Insert Tab) on Visual created in Step
14 to connect to Bookmark created in step 25.
27. You may use the Sync Slicer from the View Tab to sync slicer
with other Visual pages.
28. Create a Key Influencer Chart to see what influences Profit to
Increase with respect to Sales and Segments.
29. Create a Decomposition Tree to see how Profit is impacted by
Product Group, Segment and Country.
30. Try different Formatting Options under the General Tab:
a. Properties: allows to specify the size, position and padding
b. Title: Define the Title and sub-title, font etc
c. Effects: Change Background options like colour, border etc
d. Header: Allows you to change the colour of the icons when to
mouse hover on the visual.
e. ToolTips: Provides extra information
31. Activate the Q&A on a new page and explore
a. Number of Products in each Country
b. Top 10 Products by Profit
c. Product Groups by Sales
d. Top five Segments by Profit and Cogs
e. Sales by Quarter
f. Sales by Quarter and Year
g. Month by Sales and Profit
32. Create another Report using Q&A:
a. Compare Sales Price and Sales
b. Compare Product wise discounts and Sales Price
c. Compare Segment wise, Country wise Sales
d. Compare Country wise, Product wise Profit
