1- Introduction and Scope.

This method of statement specifies the detailed requirement and comprehensive


procedures for the installation of water supply pipes and fittings.

4.5 Staff and Responsibilities


4.5.1. The Project Manager will be responsible for the following:
 To ensure availability of project resources as per planned programme of work.
 To coordinate with the Consultant, Main Contractor for proper completion of the
project works.
 To monitor the progress of work in relation with the work program
 To ensure all the works are carried out according to project specifications
4.5.2. The Construction Manager will be responsible for the following:

 To ensure that all the preparation and application works are carried out according to
the Contract Specification.
 To ensure that the progress of works is carried out according to the planned
program and as per the approved Method Statement.
 To ensure that all the equipment’s and materials required to execute the work are
available according to the planned construction program.
 To provide all necessary information and distribute responsibilities to his
construction team.
 To coordinate with the Main Contractor MEP Coordinator & Safety Officer for a safe
and proper execution of the works.
 To monitor the progress of work in relation with the work program and report to the
Project Manager.
4.5.3 The Project Engineer/ Site Engineer will be responsible for the following:

 The Project Engineer/ Site Engineer will carry out his duties by maintaining
continuous coordination with the Construction Manager on daily basis and ensure
proper distribution of the workforce in the required and planned locations.
 To ensure that his assistant foreman/ charge hand is aware of the job requirements
and they have enough information to carry out their duties properly.
 To ensure in consultation with the Construction Manger that the manpower
involved in the works are moving as agreed and planned for the work.
 To ensure that the daily work is progressing as planned and as advised by the
Construction Manager of any requirement for additional resources.
 To control disposal of waste materials according to the instructions received from
the Construction Manager.

 To ensure full coordination with the Safety Officer to maintain safe working and
proper housekeeping of the site, following the approved safety measures and
further ensure that all his working team are aware of the same to prevent accident
and losses.
 To inform the Construction Manager of the areas ready for inspection.

4.5.4 Planning Engineer will be responsible for the following:

 To monitor the progress of work in relation with the work program.


 To ensure availability of project resources as per planned programme of work.
 To monitor the progress of work and project resources in relation with the work pro-
gram and report to the Project Manager.
 To monitor the progress of work in relation with the work program and to report to
the Project Engineer.
 To co-ordinate with construction manager and project engineer to ensure the
progress of work is in line with planned programmer of works.

4.5.5 The Foreman will be responsible for the following:

 The foreman will carry out his duties by maintaining continuous coordination with
the Site Engineer on daily basis and ensure proper distribution of the workforce in
the required and planned locations.
 To ensure that his assistant foreman/ charge hand is aware of the job requirements
and they have enough information to carry out their duties properly.
 To ensure in consultation with the Project Engineer that the manpower in volved in

4.5.6. The QA/QC engineer will be responsible for the following:

 To prepare the applicable quality control procedures, inspection & test plans (ITP’s)
& quality control checklists.
 To be responsible for all aspect of the project related to quality control and the
overall implementation of quality management system at site.
 To carry out in site testing if and when required ensuring compliance with
specifications.
 To ensure that all materials to be incorporated in the work are in accordance with
specification and approved by the consultants and/or contractor.
 To ensure that all the works executed on site are in accordance with the approved
shop drawings & specifications.
 To liaise with customer’s representative for inspection, testing and witnessing for
tests.
 To maintain records of inspection and tests.
 To prepare non-conformance reports, and coordinates preventive & corrective
actions.
4.5.7. The HSE officer will be responsible for the following
 The HSE Officer shall verify the hazard and risk assessment form and make sure that
the controls are being implemented as per the approved Risk Assessment.
 The HSE Officer shall conduct HSE Induction for new workers and all HSE related
trainings.
 HSE Officer shall ensure that all needed Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPEs) are
available.
 HSE Officer shall ensure that the first aid box is available near the working area
 The HSE Officer shall verify all work permits issued to ensure that necessary hazard
controls are in place.
4.5.8. The Technicians/ Labours will be responsible for the following
 To ensure the installations are carried out as per approved shop drawings
 To ensure during the site installations proper health and safety requirement to be
followed.
 To ensure the proper housekeeping to be done and to maintain the working area
clean and tidy

5- Health, Safety and Environment


 Strictly followed as per the manufacturer’s Health & Safety recommendations for
handling and use of the materials. It will be ensured that all involved personnel are
aware of the same.

 Potable fire extinguishers to be provided at all work places within the easy reach for
operation.

6- Logistics and Access.


6.1. Logistics: (Material/Lifting Management)
 Materials shall be protected from mechanical damage and climatic conditions during
transport and while stored at site.
 Stack the materials as per the manufacture’s recommendation

6.2. Access:
 It will be ensured that proper access will be provided before commencement of the
work at site and during the inspection of the consultant and coordination with the
safety in-charge.

6.3 Hangers & Supports

6.3.1. Provide hangers as shown on approved construction/shop drawings suitable for


the size of pipe to be supported.
6.3.2. Pipe support interval shall be in accordance with the Approved typical installation
detailed drawings.
6.3.3. Ensure that supports are arranged as near as possible to joints where changes in
direction of pipe works.
6.3.4. Pipe supports shall be installed independently

7- Procedure
7.1. Installation
 Domestic Cold-Water Supply

6.1 Polypropylene Random (PPR)

6.1.1 All horizontal as well as vertical piping’s shall be as per the approved
shop drawing.
6.1.2 Mark the supports for the horizontal and vertical pipes at the intervals
shown on the approved typical installation drawing.
6.1.3 Fix the supports as suitable for the size of the pipes to be supported and
the support intervals shall be as per the approved drawing

6.1.4 For joining PPR pipes and fittings by fusion welding it is necessary to
have all required tools and strictly follow the instruction of manufac-
turer.
6.1.5 PPR pipes and fittings to be joined together by Socket fusion welding,
this process consists of mixing of melted materials of external surface of
the pipe and internal surface of the fittings after heating them up to a
specified temperature instructed by the manufacturer.
6.1.6 After heating up to specified temperature remove the pipes and fittings
from the heating tip of the machine and both the heated ends of the
pipes and fittings should be pushed each other to join them in line, fi-
nally the joint should be cooled to the specified temperature given by
the manufacturer.
6.1.7 Threaded fittings shall be used to connect to other piping systems, fix-
tures etc.
6.1.8 Fix all the necessary valves, NRV’s, Automatic air vent etc. for cold and
hot water lines as per the approved shop drawings.
6.1.9 PP-R pipes shall not be installed or stored under direct UV light. Pipes on
roof shall be insulated and cladded.
6.1.10 Remove all waste materials from the work place.

6.2 Sleeve for Pex Pipes

6.2.1 Mark the desired length of the pipe using a meter.


6.2.2 Cut the desired length by using a regular pipe cutter/knife.
6.2.3 Make sure that wall chasing will be done properly, proper support for
the sleeves so that it will not be exposing after final plastering.
6.2.4 Sleeves shall have different color for different applications.

6.3 Pex Pipes

6.3.1 Mark the desired length of the pipe using a meter.


6.3.2 Cut the desired length by using a regular pipe cutter.
6.3.3 Bend the pipe according to your desired angle and insert it into the
sleeve.
6.3.4 If the pipe hole gets a bit distorted, you can use a pipe reamer to reform
it.
6.3.5 Connect the fitting into the pipe.
6.3.6 After connecting, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the fitting.
6.3.7 Make sure the pipe is properly tightened & align to one other.

6.4.1 Blank off all elements such as, instruments, pumps, automatic air releas-
ing valve or any other equipment, which may get damaged if brought
under pressure. Open all valves completely during the test.
6.4.2 Fill the system with water and vent the system at highest points for re-
moval of air and maintain the pressure for a sufficient period of time.
6.4.3 All piping system will be tested under a pressure of 1.5 times the work-
ing pressure.
6.4.4 Rectify leaks, if it happens to be there during the testing and retest the
system.
6.4.5 Arrange for inspection by consultant and obtain approval.
6.4.6 After the inspection thoroughly drain and blowout the full system and
protect it from further contamination. All pipes and fittings shall be kept
clean and exposed ends to be covered /plugged.

8- Quality Control:
8.1. Check and ensure that the delivered material to the site is as per approved material
submittal and project specifications.
8.2. Any non-conformity of delivered material will be returned back.
8.3. MIR will be raised to consultant upon conformity of the delivered material as per
approved material submittal.
8.4. Upon MIR approval, Materials/Equipment’s will be stored in a given location and proper
protection of the materials will be done to prevent from damages and to maintain the
quality.
8.5. Shop drawings need to be approved prior to start installation works at site.
8.6. Necessary clearances to be obtained from Civil & ID prior to start works at site in order
to prevent removal and reinstallation of MEP services which causes miss-coordination,
damages and major quality issues at site.
8.7. Ensure that the installation works is carried out as per approved shop drawings,
specifications and manufactures recommendations.
8.8. Installation checks & required Testing will be carried by QA/QC Engineer to ensure the
quality of the works have been followed throughout the project.
