INTER SCHOOL SCIENCE QUIZ COMPETITION 2024

OBJECTIVES:

Science quiz competition aims to test students’ knowledge and critical thinking in
physics, chemistry and biology, and acquire a strong basics for these subjects to
pursue higher studies and career in Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) fields.

It is a platform for students to:

• Understand the application of science in day to day life using critical thinking
skills.
• Gauge their knowledge level and speed of thought in solving science questions.
• Learn to work together as a team and foster friendship among the participants.
• Encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a
relationship between theory and application of the learnt concept.

With great pleasure, on behalf of Science Dept. GIIS, Malaysia would like to provide
a platform for the students of GIIS and other international schools to take part in
Science Quiz Competition 2024.

DATE AND TIME:

Competition will be conducted via Online Date: 3rd October 2024,

Time: 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (MYT/SGT) , 10am (IST)

ACTION PLAN:
Step 1: Only one team per School. 4 students of Grade 11 /and 12 (CBSE) or Year
11(IGCSE) / any equivalent standard can participate.

Step 2: Last date for registration 20th SEP 2024

Step 3: Incharge Teacher will be responsible for all communications.

GENERAL RULES:

• The Competition is team based, one team should consist of 4 students (Grade
11 to 12)
• Team should be formed from the same School.
• Science quiz questions are based on the integrated curriculum of
secondary syllabus of CBSE.
• The decision of the quizmaster will be final and will not be subjected to any
change.

• The participants shall not be allowed to use mobile or other


electronic devices.
• The questions shall be in the form of Multiple Choice, Very short questions
and Visual questions.
• Audience shall not give any hints or clues to the quizzers.
• Replacement of any participant of a team is not allowed after registration.
• There will be two rounds in the quiz competition,
1. Elimination round. (if more than 6 teams are participating)
2. Final round or stage round.
• There are three rounds in final Round (Mcqs Round, Rapid fire Round, Visual
Round)
Elimination round:
Each team will be given a set of question paper containing 20 multiple choice
objective type questions via google form.
The following rules will be applied for the preliminary round.
• Time limit: 20 minutes.
• Each question will carry 1 mark.
• Only top 6 teams will be selected for final or stage rounds.
• In case of tie between 2 or more teams, further 5 questions will be asked
for final selection. This step will be continued till the selection of 6 teams.
• The selected teams shall have to appear for the final round.
Final Round
1. MCQs Round:

• There are three turns. Every team will be asked one question in each turn. They
will be given 30 seconds to answer the question.

• If answered correctly, they will be awarded 10 marks for the correct answer.
• If unable to answer correctly, then the question will be passed to subsequent
teams.
• Subsequent teams will get 10 seconds & will be awarded 5 marks for each
correct answer.

2. Rapid fire Round:

• Every team will be asked to nominate one member from their team.
• Nominated member will be asked to answer ten questions max. in 60 seconds.
• 10 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
• If answer is not known then the team should tell “Pass” to move to next
question, otherwise team will not be able to cover all 10 questions.

3. Visual Round:

• Each team will be asked two visual questions and will be given 20 seconds to
answer the question.
• If answered correctly, 10 marks will be awarded.
• There is no negative marking for incorrect response.
• This is a non-transferrable round.
