Lesson 6.1: Reforms for Basic Education Curriculum

SELF REFLECT

Reflect on the statement below and comment: The K to12 is bound to fail because it is implemented
hurriedly without thorough planning”.

The K to 12 program was introduced with the goal of improving the education system. However,

many believe it was implemented too quickly without enough preparation. When a major change like this

happens, schools need time to adjust. Teachers need proper training to understand and teach the new

curriculum effectively. Unfortunately, some teachers did not receive enough support before the program

started. Schools also faced problems with a lack of classrooms, books, and learning materials. This made

it difficult for students to get the education they deserve.

Parents were also concerned because they had to adjust to the new system, which added extra years to

their children's schooling. For families with limited resources, this was an unexpected burden. Another

issue is that not all schools, especially in rural areas, have the same resources. Some students are left

behind because their schools don’t have enough facilities or qualified teachers.

Despite these challenges, the K to 12 program has good intentions. It aims to prepare students for the

workforce or higher education, making them more competitive globally. If the government and education

leaders had taken more time to plan, many of these problems could have been avoided. The key now is to

address the issues that arose from the rushed implementation. With better resources, teacher training, and

support for students, the program still has a chance to succeed. It may take time, but with continuous

improvements, K to 12 can eventually meet its goals.
