“Concept-based learning techniques”

The topic of my project was teaching techniques and how to learn to "learn". When children start their
kindergarten education, they are taught that they need to remember and learn certain things. In primary school,
there are new subjects that may seem difficult for young learners. In the later years of education, subjects such
as history, physics or chemistry keep students awake at night. More and more tests, quizzes and essays. More
and more things to study. The school only orders students to learn, but it has never taught them how to do it to
make learning enjoyable and lasting longer. This is the reason why I created this lesson plan, which inspired me
while participating in glottodidactics classes.

During the lectures, I learned that the first thing you should understand is your students. Planning a lesson
helps for better organize the class and keeps students focused. Children can study a lot by listening in an
engaging lesson.
One of the advantages is that during the lessons of teaching techniques, pupils will be able to adapt it to their
own learning style. By conducting classes about this topic in primary school, students learn how to properly
prepare for learning and how to remember information in a simple way for longer. The lesson plan includes an
introduction (which will explain the techniques and how to prepare for them), a description of the methods and
practice. These selected techniques are: “The PQ4R Method”, “Mind map” and “Pomodoro technique”.
Nevertheless, each student is different and each requires different stimuli to help them learn the subject. When
none of the techniques suit one of the students, they will be introduced to the others. This builds a certain
closeness between the educator and the learners. Kids will understand that the teachers are not only responsible
for issuing orders and prohibitions, but they are also a guides who want to show their pupils the right way.

In my project I was based on two of the theoretical approaches which are cognitivism and constructivism.
By using this in my lesson plan, students will focus on themselves and their experiences, and will experience
thought processes that favor learning.

Moreover, when making a lesson plan, time should be kept in mind. All planned activities should be spread out
to fit within 45 minutes. Therefore, I practiced each of my planned activities myself to be sure that everything
would be said and that the time during the tasks would be sufficient for the children.

However, you should not forget about the level of difficulty appropriately adjusted for students when creating
the plan and class work. If this is wrongly adjusted to the age group, the students will not learn anything on the
lessons. Too low level and easy tasks will make students complete them faster than the allotted time and they
will be bored. Nevertheless, if the level of difficulty is too high, the children will not complete the task on time
and will become discouraged from further learning. That is the reason why it is so important to properly assess
the level of prepared tasks.

In addition, the most important thing is the outcome. Doing task during the lesson, pupils exercise their mind
and remember important information. However, not remembered knowledge quickly fades away. That is the
reason why it is so important for students to get homework. It allows them to practice and learn important
content studied during the class.

To sum up, I believe that the information provided during the glottodidactics classes positively influenced
my educational development. Thanks to the acquired knowledge, my lesson plan became more thoughtful. It
contains techniques that are conducive to quick learning using your own mental stimuli. Thanks to this, students
will gain knowledge about learning techniques and learning will never be a problem for them again.
