The Pokémon series is a massive franchise that spans across video games, anime,

movies, and even trading card games. It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken
Sugimori, and has been developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. Here’s
a look at the different parts of the Pokémon series:

1. Pokémon Video Games

The heart of the Pokémon franchise lies in its main series RPGs. Players take on the
role of a Pokémon Trainer, capturing creatures known as Pokémon, training them, and
battling other Trainers. The games are usually set in fictional regions, with each
generation introducing new Pokémon, mechanics, and features.

 Generations & Key Titles:

1. Generation I – Pokémon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow (Game Boy, 1996-
1998): The first games, introducing the original 151 Pokémon, including
fan favorites like Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. These
games set the foundation for the entire franchise.
2. Generation II – Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal (Game Boy Color, 1999-
2000): This generation introduced 96 new Pokémon, the day/night
cycle, and the concept of Shiny Pokémon.
3. Generation III – Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (Game Boy
Advance, 2002-2004): The Hoenn region was introduced, and with it,
abilities and natures for Pokémon.
4. Generation IV – Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (Nintendo DS,
2006-2008): The Sinnoh region and the concept of Wi-Fi battles were
introduced, along with the Pokémon Contest system.
5. Generation V – Pokémon Black/White/Black 2/White 2 (Nintendo DS,
2010-2012): The Unova region, featuring a completely new roster of 156
Pokémon, and a deeper story-driven plot.
6. Generation VI – Pokémon X/Y (Nintendo 3DS, 2013): The Kalos
region, introducing Mega Evolution and the Fairy-type Pokémon.
7. Generation VII – Pokémon Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon (Nintendo
3DS, 2016-2017): Set in the Alola region, this generation introduced
Alolan Forms of classic Pokémon, a more narrative-focused structure,
and the Z-Moves.
8. Generation VIII – Pokémon Sword/Shield (Nintendo Switch, 2019):
The Galar region brought in Dynamax and Gigantamax forms, and for
the first time, an open-world area called the Wild Area.
9. Generation IX – Pokémon Scarlet/Violet (Nintendo Switch, 2022): The
Paldea region was introduced with an open-world design, new
mechanics like Terastallization, and a focus on non-linear gameplay.

Mystery Dungeon, Pokémon Snap, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Ranger.
