THE LEGEND OF JACK “O”LANTERN

One of the biggest sybols of halloween,the Jack “o” lantern,is


associated with Irish tradition.
This scams from the Irish belief,a long ego time,there was a
rascal of a fellow named Jack who had the audacity to trick the
very devil himself.
It is said that Jack played a trick on the devil by enticing him up
into a tree,then carving the sign of the cross in the tree so that
the devil could not get down.
In change for removing the sign the devil had to promise not to
com after Jack´s soul.Well,the devil kept his promise,but it did
not prevent Jack from eventually dying.Because Jack had bee a
sting miserly drunkard in his live he was not admitted into
heaven.
Desperate for a place to rest his soul,Jack appealed to the devil
to let him reside in Hell.But,because Jack had tricked the
devil,the devil would not let Jack into Hell.
Instad,Jack was condemned to run the earth forever,searching
for an eternal resting place.
The devil gave Jack acandle,which Jack put into the turnip he was
eating.From that day on he has roamed the earth,with his
latern,looking for that place to rest.And that is show we got the
modern day Jack “o”Lantern.

Legend says that the Malinche is the native woman wo helped Cortés
and the Aztecs.The nighit before Cortés departure,the Malinche
escapes whit her twin babies wohese father is Cortés.Cortés soldiers
soon discover her obsence and set outafter her.
Upon arriven at the lake that Mexico City now rest on,the soldiers
surround the Malinche just as they are at the brink of capturing
her,she pulls out.Adagger and stabs her babies in the heart,dropping
their lifeless bodies into the water.
The Maliche lets out a heart wrenching cry “Oh mis hijos””O my
childrens”.Up to the time of her death she is seen on the night of a
full,moon,wandering the streest wearing a white dress with a lignt
veil covering her face Her agonizing cries terrorize everyone who
sees or hears her.Sighting of the Llorona spread throughout mosts
or Mexico with people in each town/city beliving she is local to .
