Following are the steps to successfully complete C954 Information Technology Management:
1. DO NOT TAKE THE C954 PREASSESSMENT EXAM UNTIL YOU HAVE
COMPLETED STEPS 2 and 3 OF THIS STUDY PLAN.
2. Before you begin studying the course materials, you should talk with a Student Success
trainer for tips on (1) studying for an objective assessment examination and

3. Perform the steps in the C954 Information Technology Management Pacing Guide as
presented in the next section. Note that you have three basic resources available to prepare for
the exams:
a. Baltzan, P. (2020). Business driven technology. McGraw-Hill Higher Education, which is
accessed using links in sections 2 – 7 of the course.
b. Heller, M. (2016). Be the business: CIOs in the new era of IT. Routledge, which is accessed
using a link in section 7 of the course.
c. Articles on unified communications, which are accessed by clicking links in
sections 2 and 6 of the course.
d. Several videos and other resources.
e. A series of 432 flashcards appearing in sections 2 – 7 of the course. Note that you can
download the flashcards by clicking the link accessible version in each section.
4. After you have completed all the tasks in C954 Project Management Pacing Guide, you should
take the Preassessment exam. You should look at the questions you missed and look up and
research the topics in the books. The questions on the Preassessment exam do not change on
multiple attempts.
5. When you are ready, you should schedule and make your first attempt at the WGU Objective
Assessment exam.

Be sure to consult Figure 1 that follows on page 3 for a very useful table that provides a correspondence
of textbook chapters and other resources to pre/objective assessment exam knowledge areas and the
percentage of total exam questions for each exam knowledge area.
Each of the seven tasks below should be completed in from three to seven days. If you take too
long to complete the Course of Study, you’ll risk forgetting some of the earlier material. If you complete
the Course of Study too quickly, you likely have skimmed the material or skipped some of the steps.
Unless unusual events occur, the Course of Study should be completed in no more than six weeks.

Task 1:

Complete section 2 of the Course of Study:

1. Read Baltzan chapters 1, 6, 8, 10, and 16, taking detailed notes and answering the review
questions at the end of each chapter.
2. Read in Baltzan Plugins B1, B2, B3, and B5.
3. Watch the three videos as directed.
4. Repeat at least three times the 96 flashcards found in section 2.

Task 2:
Complete section 3 of the Course of Study:
1. Read Baltzan chapters 9, 11, 12, 14 and 15, taking detailed notes and answering the review
questions at the end of each chapter.
2. Read the article on unified communications accessed by clicking the link in section 3.
3. Watch the three videos as directed.
4. Repeat at least three times the 48 flashcards found in section 3.

Task 3:
Complete section 4 of the Course of Study:
1. Read Baltzan chapters 2, 3, 4, 17, 18 and 19, taking detailed notes and answering the review
questions at the end of each chapter.
2. Watch the two videos as directed.
3. Repeat at least three times the 96 flashcards found in section 4.

Task 4:
Complete section 5 of the Course of Study:
1. Read Baltzan chapter 5, taking detailed notes and answering the review questions at the end of
each chapter.
2. Read in Baltzan Plugins B4 and B6.
3. Repeat at least three times the 48 flashcards found in section 5.

Task 5:
Complete section 6 of the Course of Study:
1. Review Baltzan chapter 5.
2. Read in Baltzan Plugins B7, B9, and B11.
3. Read the article Have you heard of ITIL? accessed by clicking the link in section 6.
4. Repeat at least three times the 96 flashcards found in section 6.

Task 6:
Complete section 7 of the Course of Study:
1. Read in Baltzan Plugins B8 and B12.
2. Read Heller chapters 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10.
3. Repeat at least three times the 48 flashcards found in section 7.

Task 7:
1. Carefully review the course notes you took when reading the course textbooks.
2. Review the 432 flashcards for all sections at least three times.
3. Take the preassessment exam and wait to be contacted by your course instructor before you
schedule your Objective Assessment Exam.
4. When approved by your course instructor, take the Objective Assessment Exam.
