TESOL Module 1 Assignment (after phase 5)

A. Design a conversation activity (speaking skill) based on the topic “Planning a trip
to any holiday destination”
Include relevant support material (images and video links if used) and a list of related vocabulary.
Basic parameters to be mentioned: Number of Students, Age-level, language level, language spoken
by students, Duration, Terminal Objectives, Enabling Objectives, etc.

Pre-Listening _- Teacher takes out first four lines from the script which makes perfect sense and does
a quick practice with the students (steps given in lesson procedure)

You need to include four lines (bridge dialogue) in this section and practice by following all the
necessary steps.

1. Warmer- (5 min)

Teacher greets students and models the warmer, She does one demo and the students follow.
(Here let us have something like the ‘Chinese whisper’ – related to listening/speaking skill)

2. Context setting – (7 min)

The teacher uses different resources to elicit the topic in the class. The teacher elicits response and writes
the topic on the board and reviews the vocabulary written by emphasizing on the correct pronunciation

3. Pre listening – Bridge dialogue (10 min)

4. While listening – (12 min)

Teacher prepares students for the transcript and asks the first “Wh” question.
Teacher plays audio, students respond.

Teacher writes only key word answers

Teacher repeats the same procedure with the rest of the “Wh” questions.

5. Post listening (8 min)

Teacher models the entire script once.

Teacher distributes scripts to students.

T reviews with whole group – Teacher reads and students repeat. T takes up one role and students
take up the other and read the script as role play practice/vice versa

Teacher models the script again with one student explaining how it is to be done,

Students practice and do a role play.

6. Recapitulation (5 min)

A light activity based on the lesson. For example, a quiz, discussion, writing a summary, vocab
building activity, retelling the story, etc.

B. Consider any 3 of the following situations and discuss how you might handle them.

2. A group of students come into the classroom after the lesson has begun.
3. One student has her head down on the desk and other students are looking at her.
4. The beginning of the class is delayed because two students are fighting.
5. You have assigned a task, and some of the students have already completed it, but others
are still working.
6. You have purposely counted off students to work in random groups of 5, but some
students want to stay with their friends and don’t want to join the assigned group.
7. One student is causing disruption (acting out).
