About Primary 1 Scheme of Work

The unified scheme of work for basic class 1 will guide e ective teaching and
learning in private and government schools. A scheme of work is an academic
outline that is designed to state what is to be covered within a specific time. It is
usually for an educational session (first, second, and third term). This is so
because it helps teachers plan their lessons, that way they can ensure they are
taught before the end of the school year.

Basic primary education is the foundation of a child’s educational development,

it is in primary school that a child will learn the basic skills that will prepare him
for life. In this academic stage, pupils need to be empowered with quality
education as it will positively impact their lives.

The old curriculum was reviewed in 2023. The reviewed unified scheme of works
covers various subjects that aid in the proper upbringing of a child. This scheme
of work is derived from the Lagos State Ministry of Education curriculum.

The Lagos State Unified Scheme of Work has 12 subjects. However, National Val-
ues Education comprises (Social Studies, Civic Education, and Security Educa-
tion), while Basic Science and Technology Comprises (Basic Science, Information
Technology, and Physical and Health Education).

Introduction

Basic Science and Technology is Divided into Three Categories: Basic Science,
Information Technology (IT), and Physical and Health Education (PHE). The
Primary 1 Basic Science and Technology will serve as an introductory class to
the Pupils. It will introduce concepts related to Life Science( Living Things,
animals and our bodies) and Physical Sciences( energy, Sound, light and sim-
ple Machines).

The Sub-categories: Basic Science, IT and PHE for this class will focus on the
following;

Basic Science will introduce the pupils to living and non-living things, energy,
water, light, colour, etc. This category makes them conversant with their en-
vironment, as well as study their environment about what they are taught in
the class.

looks like, and also simple basic machines. This category will expose them to
the tech world.

Physical and Health Education, this category, will introduce them to move-
ment, games, rules in games, and personal hygiene.

All the categories in Basic Science and technology should be properly

demonstrated to the pupils as this subject involves a practical and interac-
