Net work analysis techniques
3-Nodel analysis
Purpose:
a- To measure the voltages and currents present in the circuit using Nodal Analysis
b- To compare the computed theoretical values of the resistance, voltage and current of the circuit with the experimental values
c- To prove that the computed theoretical values (using Nodal Analysis) and experimental values are almost the same.
Theory: This method is obviously simpler than either Kirchhoff's laws or Loop-equation approach to network analysis.
A voltage node is a junction in an electrical circuit at which voltage can be measured with respect to another (reference) node. If
one point in the circuit is grounded, that point is usually selected as the reference node- otherwise, only convenient junction
can be treated as a reference node.
Nodel analysis procedure:
1- Convert all voltage sources to current sources, and redraw the diagram.
2- Identify all nodes and choose a reference node.
3- Write the equations for current flowing into and out of each node, with Exception of reference node.
4- Solve the equations to determine the node voltage and the required branch current.
NOTES:
1- Count the number of nodes (N).
2-Designate a reference node. The number of terms in your nodal equations can be minimized by selecting the node with the
greatest number of branches connected to it.
3-Label the nodal voltages (there are N-1 of them).
Procedure:
1- Connect the circuit as shown in figure (1) By potting the current level to it maximum value and the voltage value as it
mentioned in the figure.
2- Convert voltage sources to current sources theoretically , then connect the new circuit as shown in figure (2) and make the
value of the current from the power supply as calculated theoretically and DO NOT change the values of the voltage of the
power supply.
3- Measure the values of ( I1 , I2 , I3 , I4 , I5 and V1 (the voltage of node 1) ) .
4- Find the voltage at node 1 which is V1 theoretically and from it’s value find the values of (I1 , I2 , I3 , I4 , I5 ).

Discussion : Compare your practical reading with your theoretical values . And did you achieved the purpose of your
experiment ?
