DIRECT PROPORTION

Direct proportion or direct variation is the relation


between two quantities where the ratio of the two is
equal to a constant value.

• If the number of individuals visiting a
restaurant increases, earning of the
restaurant also increases and vice versa
• The cost of the fruits or vegetable
increases as the weight for the same
increases.

An electric pole, 7 meters high, casts a shadow of 5
meters. Find the height of a tree that casts a shadow
of 10 meters under similar conditions.

SOLUTION:

INVERSE PROPORTION

When the value of one quantity increases with


respect to decrease in other or vice-versa,
then they are said to be inversely proportional.

Solution: 3:5----3+5=8

48/8 = 6 equal parts

6 x 3 parts = 18 boys
6 x 5 parts = 30 girls

trees of each kind are there?
Solution: 7+3+2=12

1800/12 = 150

150 x 7 = 1050 peach
