Quizzing Commoners
Description
There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge. - Bertrand Russell. The human
mind is relentless in the pursuit of knowledge. This thirst for knowledge is what drives his
progress in any field. And of course, what format for the transfer of knowledge could be as
exciting, or as beautiful, as a quiz? Only through this format can you combine the nail-biting
suspense, the sheer thrill of neurons firing off and the feverish search through millions of
thoughts, until you finally stumble upon that elusive detail, culminating in a Eureka moment of
pure happiness as you realize the answer. Quizzing Commoners (Q-Comm) was established in
2009 by the quizzing enthusiasts of IIM Lucknow. Q-Comm aims to ignite this spark of
quizzing that exists in everyone’s heart.
Quizzing Commoners offers a lot to its participants and there are a lot of reasons to participate
in the quizzes:
1. Quizzing as a sport greatly enhances the inquisitiveness of students helping them explore a wide
range of topics.
2. It increases daily awareness and helps boost positive habits such as reading and independent
research.
3. Students are up to date in recent development across a large range of fields - the requirement of
the day is to be well informed.
4. It facilitates lateral thinking, by presenting and answering questions in an irregular format.
Activities
1. The major activities of the club include 'Quizzes', a series of informal quizzing sessions held
throughout the year. The club also organises the quizzing section for Camaraderie. The formats
for each of these quizzes vary, and various themes such as business, entertainment, sports,
literature are explored through them.
2. Quizzing Commoners also undertook the organisation of the largest quizzing festival that exists
in the nation, Nihilanth. IIM Lucknow was home to quizzers from IITs & IIMs from all over the
nation for a period of 3 days and host to a total of 173 participants from these institutions. Well-
known quiz masters were called to conduct Nihilanth. Round the clock quizzing was what
ensued, and it resulted in the participant colleges praising the scale and organisation of the event.
It was as big as an event comes to in the quizzing field. This was only the second time Nihilanth
came to IIM Lucknow and the first time it was conducted independently here. This shows the
teams' commitment to In-house quizzing and exhibits the passion and zeal that the club has for
quizzing, which inspired us to take Lucknow's image in quizzing on the national stage to a
different level altogether.
3. Quizzing Commoners also coordinates with the Tata group to organise the prestigious Tata
Crucible College Quiz Championship. The group hosts the Lucknow city event at the college
premises. Several teams from the college have gone on to win the competition and have
represented the college at the National level with recent success in the 2021 edition.
