Practical Learning
Practical Learning
Bangalore
Introduction
Our new Semester begins in June and this time our Mission department’s 2 nd year only had
two Subjects. In this paper, I am going to write about my experience learning and what I
learned throughout the semester from different aspects and active curriculum.
Chapel Service
One of the best parts of our college is Chapel hour, here we all come together and worship
Him. How did it impact and have a blessing in my life and one of the learning aids? As a
human, our emotions change like a valley up and down which exactly happens in our spiritual
life as well. Sometimes we are so down in Spirit and soul however Gods work in His way by
using His people by preaching and teaching. Which rejuvenates our souls only even the
worship boosts our souls. The preachers brought academic sermons as well as insightful
thoughts from each individual. Throughout the services, I learnt that our lives will
constantly be changed and what going to hold onto us is God and His words
Practical Ministry
Practical Ministry where each student is assigned under one team and the concerned person
assigns them under one church and every Sunday, they need to visit their respective assigned
churches. I do not have any idea about others’ experiences but as for me, I learnt to notice
things like the challenges, and learning process good and bad since we have to keep a record.
That made me realize the challenges and we can overcome the challenges.
Friday Ministry
Friday Ministry is also part of our Practical Ministry which is only done on Friday here we go
as a team each team will go each Friday in different places alternatively. For this ministry, we
have two particular places 1. Old age home and another Children’s home where special
children are been taken care.
Visiting these two places has just broadened my mind letting me learn something new that
what society needs and how we must react to that it’s simple to do anything without God’s
vision and dedication and constancy are needed.
Mission Trip
Mission Trip after every first Semester
The forest is the main natural resource of the Hakki Pikki. The tribe has faced challenges due
to stricter wildlife protection laws, leading them to shift from hunting to selling herbal oils,
spices, and plastic flowers at local temple fairs.
For me they look very strange, they wear a little bit of rag clothes and it seems not much
education in their community.
Naturally, the village was to un hygiene and the water crisis was the main problem they were
discriminated against by the surrounding community with no job and just raring domestic
animals. Well should dig more and the village should be kept clean.
2. Hakki Pikki tribal people were kind loving people, they wanted to mingle with the people,
they spoke some communication language, hunted animals, and planted or jhum cultivate are
their source of livelihood. But most of them were un educated.
1. Observe and describe what is going on around you. What do you as an observer hear,
smell and feel in this space or community?
Things going around me are not very good, houses are not well constructed, only one house
looks like a pukka house, animal excreta surrounded their village, and the temple and
panchayat community hall also look like never has been for a year, it shows that they live as
they like. The tribal faced many challenges due to stricter wildlife protection laws, leading
them to shift from hunting to selling herbal oils, spices, and plastic flowers in the local temple
fairs.
The nomadic tribe has undergone displacement and loss of livelihood for generations. The
community is known for the strange names they give to their children. A father of a newborn
often names his child based on the first thing that comes to his mind. The community has
members with names such as Congress.
The village panchayat has the power and village authority has made for to look and take care
of the village law and rules.
Hakki Pikki ladies wear sarees, and males wear loincloths. They also adorn themselves with
natural materials, trinkets and ethnic jewellery. For a tribe’s existence in the past, hunting and
gathering have been essential. They are expert hunters who harvest fruit, roots and honey
from the forest and capture small wildlife using conventional techniques.
Hakki Pikki is mostly they were Hindu traditions and celebrates all Hindu festivals. They are
non-vegetarians. The eldest son in a family is not supposed to cut his hair so that he can be
Traditionally, the Hakki Pikki people resided in huts constructed of natural materials or in
transitory forest communities. Some have, nevertheless, moved into more permanent housing
in recent years.
Hakki Pikki are a people living together in a small community in the village. In the families
around five or six members were there, and most of the houses were built of mud and wood,
they rare Domestic animals like cows, Han, ducks and all, and their transportation is small
vehicles or roads are not very good. Their income source was in the jungle hunting and
cultivating, and herbs of medicine selling, it did not earn much but a livelihood for a day
wage, there was no school found in the village no government initiative, no signboard and
education life was too poor in my observation and there was only one member who does
Government job or employee.
Their livelihood is originally involved in selling small plastic items to cities and villages,
these birders have evolved their business to include herbal products, particularly herbal hair
oil.
Their livelihood activities made a living by begging which to them a way of life, not a
symbol of degradation and misery. However, their ways of life and livelihoods revolved
around hunting.
The forest ceased to be the home they could walk into and out from and the cities failed to
provide any secure alternatives.
In the past few decades, many Adivasi communities of India have been evicted from the
forests where they had been living for hundreds of years. In almost all cases, the reason is
either “rehabilitation” or their inability to provide proof of their residence. The former is what
happened to the members of the Hakki Pikki tribe of Karnataka who have not been provided
with assistance to subsist in an alien environment.
To protect themselves from starving. The community members started selling their traditional
ayurvedic oils and tried to make a living.
To keep one clinic or dispensary in the village because their health care is so less and
unhygienic and dirty smell makes them unhealthy or may cause dengue and have awareness
programs or seminars about health issues.
Hakki Pikki people speak an Indo-Aryan language, even though they are surrounded by
Dravidian speakers in southern India. People call their mother their tongue “Vaagri.”
The hakki Pikki tribal have a good heart to follow a religion, if we bring them cleanliness and
awareness of education in their village it will easily share the gospel and bring them into
Christ.
Discipleship Group:
A Discipleship Group is a group where all students are assigned to one group consisting of 6
or 7 according to several students along with faculty. Every Wednesday we come along and
have fellowship together sometimes we eat together, go out for tea and play games. The good
thing about Discipleship is that those who do not talk much can open up with their group
member alongside faculty. Discipleship groups give a platform where one can share their
problem, anxiety etc. and pray together and it remains in the group only. Everyone builds a
good rapport through this Discipleship group.
