Statement of Purpose

Introduction
As for me, I am Hira Rubab and I am inspired to be a best researcher who is interested in
investigating the microbial world and microbial adaption towards antimicrobials. Thus, my
practical experience in laboratory work, teaching, and data analysis makes me ready to advance a
lot in the field of microbiology. My passion for microorganisms and antimicrobial resistance’s
further research to respond to the current problem makes me apply for the MPhil in
Microorganisms and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Environment at Abertay University in
Dundee, UK.

Living Background in Pakistan


Originally, I belong to the city of Bahawalpur located in the province of Punjab, Pakistan, and is
famous for its historical background Culture and education are another very important factor very
prevalent in Bahawalpur. I am one of the lucky ones born into a supportive and loving family that
encouraged me to reach for my academic goals and have a proper work ethic. Growing up in a
devoted and close-knit neighborhood, I was able to learn the importance of hard work,
commitment, and getting a good education. Studying in Pakistan has also enriched me with the
problems that developing countries face in the context of health and environmental issues, which
contributed to my focus on research in antimicrobial resistance.

Educational Background
I passed my Matriculation with distinction from the Shakir Girls High School Lodhran with
distinction qualifications in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and English.
Subsequently, I continued my Intermediate (Pre-Medical) at Allama Iqbal Girls H.S.S. in Lodhran
securing a final grade of 73%. I started my undergraduate studies at The Government Sadiq
College Women's University in Bahawalpur and completed my Bachelor of Science in Botany
with a great performance I had a GPA of 3.79/4.00. I engaged in subjects like Genetics, Cell
Biology, Environmental Biology, Plant Physiology, Ecology and so on which have created a good
background for my research work.

Experience
My early working experience began at the teaching level as a Science Teacher & Coordinator at
Ripah International College, Lodhran where I used to coordinate the science faculty, develop a
course plan, and train the staff for academic sessions. Getting employed with Jageer Seed
Corporation as a Lab Operator helped me enhance my abilities concerning laboratory practices,
quality assurance, and statistical analysis. These have offered me practical exposure to performing
experiments, managing/fostering equipment, and working with groups such as research &
development. Also, I have attended many workshops and training sessions including hands-on
training on mushroom production, soil and plant testing, and writing research articles which has
enhanced my practical experience and research skills.

Why I Chose the UK


Higher education and research in the UK are considered to be top-notch, providing students with
state-of-the-art facilities and environment. From the information above, it can be noted that the
country adheres to encouraging innovation and addressing key issues within the global society;
therefore, it is propitious for my research goals. This course will enable me to easily access some
of the best resources in the world, faculty, and work and interact with students from all over the
world.

Why Dundee
Dundee is a historic city with a good and culturally diverse population with a significant focus on
research firms. The favourable environment of the city together with the supportive academic
environment is conducive to carrying out advanced studies. Also, being at the center of various
opportunities that come with collaboration with different research centers and stakeholders in
industries places Dundee in a unique position of being one of the leading research institutions and
flu fluid microbiology and antimicrobial resistance.

Why Abertay University


Here the university that takes the spotlight is Abertay University due to its impressive portfolio in

career path as it is multi-disciplinary and focused on industrial research. Prominent among the
characteristics that suit Abertay to the ground for my MPhil studies are its focused social relevance

regulating bodies, NGOs and health boards. That is why I have chosen Abertay University together

Why MPhil Microorganisms and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Environment


When staking out a course of study at a university, there are certain factors thousands go for; such
factors make the MPhil in Microorganisms and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Environment
offered by Abertay University perfect for my research interests and career goals. It has also a good
vision where the emphasis is made on examining technological and sustainable approaches to
combating AMR, which corresponds with my interest in responding to worldwide health problems.
I have completed my past identifier and culture research on algae, their natural functions, and their
function in microbial resistance for this graduate-level work. Through this program, I would be
able to enhance my knowledge of the antibiotic-resistance genes in Salmonella plasmids, thus
helping me develop solutions to new problems in microbiology.
How This Course Relates to My Life
In my previous research activities and my working experience, all my interests and focuses have
been directed towards microbiology and the conservation of the environment. I want to continue
this work in the MPhil program, which I will attend at Abertay University, started a project,
including the identification and collection of different types of algae oriented to microbial
resistance. This postgraduate level will again train me with the relevant skills and knowledge in
combating antimicrobial resistance, which is a major concern in the modern world.

Future Goals
After the completion of my MPhil, I would like to go back to Pakistan and strengthen the area of
Microbiology and Antimicrobial resistance regimen. Given the excessive need for specialists in
this sphere in Pakistan, there are many opportunities to expand and make a change. Some of the
pioneers of this industry include Getz Pharma, Ferozsons Laboratories, Abbott Labs, Searle Pak,
GSK, and High Noon Labs and all are actively in the search for professionals. It is expected that
qualified candidates will be paid PKR 150,000 to PKR 300,000 per month; thus, in addition to
monetary rewards, interested individuals will help improve the nation’s health and preserve its
environment.

How I Will Manage My Overhead


My husband will be paying all the academic and living expenses within the duration I will be in
the United Kingdom. His support and dedication to my educational and professional goals are
unshakable; this allows me to be financially free to study and investigate without anxiety.

Therefore, for the reasons outlined above, and with the background I have detailed here, I am the
right candidate for the MPhil in Microorganisms and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Environment
at Abertay University. This is why I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to work on this vital
area of study and commence helping address global health issues.
