WHAT IS STORAGE
DEVICES?

WHAT IS INPUT&OUTPUT
DEVICES?Presented By : Group 2
STORAGE DEVICES
Storage devices are hardware components
used to store digital data and information.
They retain data for short-term or long-term
use and can be categorized into two main
types: **primary storage** (such as RAM)
and **secondary storage** (such as hard
drives or solid-state drives).
Presented by : Fauget Group
INPUT DEVICES
Input devicesare hardware components
used to send data and control signals to a
computer or other digital devices. These
devices allow users to interact with and
provide information to a system.

OUTPUT DEVICES
on the other hand, are hardware used to convey
information from a computer to the user. They
allow the computer to communicate the results
of processing to humans.
STORAGE SYSTEMS
CHARACTERISTICS
1.Capacity:Total storage space available for data.
2.Performance:Speed of data read/write operations.
3.Scalability:Ability to expand storage resources easily.
4.Reliability:System's ability to function consistently without failure.
5.Redundancy:Implementation of duplicate data or components to
ensure fault tolerance.
6.Data Integrity:Measures to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
7.Security:Protection mechanisms against unauthorized access and
data breaches.
8.Accessibility:Ease of data retrieval and user access.
9.Manageability: Simplicity of system administration and monitoring.
10. Cost Efficiency:Balance between cost and performance, including
acquisition and maintenance expenses.
MAGNETIC DISK
SYSTEM
Magnetic disks are "flat circular plates of
metal or plastic, coated on both sides with
iron oxide". Input signals, which may be
audio, video, or data, are recorded on the
surface of a disk as magnetic patterns or
spots in spiral tracks by a recording head
while the disk is rotated by a drive unit.
OPTICAL DISC SYSTEM
An Optical Disc System is a digital data storage
technology that relies on optical discs, such as CDs,
DVDs, and Blu-ray discs, to read and store data. This
system uses laser technology to access the information
encoded on the surface of the disc. It plays a crucial
role in multimedia storage, data backup, and software
distribution.
FLASH MEMORY
SYSTEM
The Flash Memory System is a crucial component in
modern data storage due to its high-speed performance,
non-volatile nature, and durability. It has transformed
the storage landscape, particularly with the rise of SSDs
in personal computing and portable devices. Despite
some limitations, such as finite lifespan and higher cost
compared to traditional hard drives, flash memory
remains the preferred choice for many modern
applications, from personal electronics to enterprise-
level data centers.
OTHER TYPES OF
STORAGE SYSTEMS
1. **Direct Attached Storage (DAS):** External hard drives like
Western Digital My Passport.
2. **Network Attached Storage (NAS):** Synology DiskStation
DS220+.
3. **Storage Area Network (SAN):** Dell EMC PowerMax.
4. **Cloud Storage:** Google Drive.
5. **Object Storage:** Amazon S3.
6. **File Storage:** Windows Server file shares.
7. **Block Storage:** Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store).
8. **Tape Storage:** IBM TS4500 Tape Library.
9. **Hybrid Storage:** NetApp FAS series.
10. **Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM):** IBM Spectrum
Protect.
COMPARING STORAGE
ALTERNATIVES
Factors to consider: speed, expense, portability, storage
capacity, and compatibility.

Most PC users require:

-Hard Disk Drive
-Solid State Drive
-CD or DVD drive
-Floppy drive
-Additional devices (flash memory card reader, etc.) as needed
for the devices being used in conjunction with the PC (e.g.
digital camera)
KEYBOARD
A keyboard is an input device that is used to type characters
and commands into a computer or other electronic device. It
typically consists of a set of keys arranged in a row or grid,
which are used to input letters, numbers, symbols, and other
characters. There are many different types of keyboards,
including standard keyboards, ergonomic keyboards, laptop
keyboards, and virtual keyboards on touch screen devices, this
allows the computer to recognize and read what the user is
trying to do on the computer
POINTING DEVICES

A pointing device is a hardware input

device that allows the user to move the
mouse cursor in a computer program or
GUI (graphical user interface) operating
system.
SCANNERS,DIGITAL
CAMERAS,READERS

Scanners,digitalcameras,readers are
input devices used to capture and
digitize physical data or media for
processing by a computer.
AUDIO INPUT DISPLAY
DEVICES
Audio input display services refer to software
or hardware that converts audio signals into
visual displays. These services can be used to
represent sound waveforms, pitch, volume,
and other audio characteristics in graphical
form. Some examples of audio input display
services include audio spectrum analyzers,
oscilloscopes, and digital audio workstations.
These tools are commonly used in audio
editing, music production, and sound design,
as well as in various scientific and
engineering fields.
PRINTER
It produces hard
copies or prints of
images, text, or
documents on the
computer.
AUDIO OUTPUT
Refers to the process by which sound is
transmitted from a device
(such as a computer, smartphone, or speaker
system)
to the listener through various audio hardware or
speakers.
This output can be digital or analog,
depending on the device and system architecture.
Two types of Audio Output

-Analog Audio Output

-Digital Audio Output
