IS 2036 – 1995 Grade P1

Grade P1 – IS 2036 -1995

Technical Description: These are Paper Based Laminated Bakelite sheets confirming to
specification, as per IS:2036, Bakelite Sheets of Grade P1 have Excellent mechanical and
adequate electrical properties. suitable for low tension non humid applications.

Applications: Battery eliminator (transformer, switch gears and choke bobbins),Tube light ends
and chokes, Control panels, Condenser mountings, Drill back up and Drill entry.

Thickness:Thickness of sheets ranges from 0.5 MM – 50.0 MM.

Size:Standard size of Bakelite sheets: 1220 x 1220mm (4 ft x 4 ft) or 2440mm x 1220mm (8ft x
4ft).

Tolerance: Bakelite Sheets are supplied as per tolerance specified in IS:2036. More closer
tolerance can be met as per customers’ specific requirement.

Colors: Available Bakelite sheet colors are natural brown, dark brown, black and gray.

Technical Description: These are paper Based Laminated Bakelite Sheets confirming to
specification as per IS:2036, GRADE P2. These Bakelite sheets Of Grade P2 have good
Mechanical Properties and better Electrical Properties, than Grade P1 and are especially suitable
for High voltage applications at power frequencies for Power Electrical Industry. P2 Grade
Bakelite Sheets also posses high electric strength under oil and good electric strength in air under
normal humid conditions.

Applications : Transformer covers, C.B. handles and side frame, Distribution boards, Fuse
holder base etc.

Thickness : Thickness of Bakelite sheets ranges from 0.7 MM – 50.0 MM.

Size : Standard size of Bakelite sheets: 1220 x 1220mm (4 ft x 4 ft) or 2440mm x 1220mm (8ft x
4ft).

Technical Description : These are Paper Based Laminated Bakelite sheets confirming to
specification, as per IS:2036.Bakelite sheet Grade P3 have excellent electrical and adequate
mechanical properties. Low water absorption. Suitable for high-tension electrical application
even under tropical conditions. P3 Grade Bakelite sheets can also be manufactured with
additional layers of Melamine overlay surface at both the sides of the sheet which will provide
excellent resistance to surface tracking and dry arcing.

Applications : Transformer and choke bobbins for power electronics. Relay spacers, HV
transformer tap changes, Grid covers, Selector Bank insulation, switch gear insulating panels,
crane panels, etc.

Thickness : Thickness of Bakelite sheets ranges from 0.9 MM – 50.0 MM.

Size : Standard size of Bakelite sheets: 1220 x 1220mm (4 ft x 4 ft) or 2440mm x 1220mm (8ft x

suitable for high frequency applications.

Applications : Meter fuses, Wafers for band change switch, Cross-bar Switches, Insulation in X-
Ray equipment, etc.

Thickness : Thickness of Bakelite sheets ranges from 0.5 MM – 12.7 MM.

Size : Standard size of Bakelite sheets: 1220 x 1220mm (4 ft x 4 ft) or 1220mm x 610 (4 ft x 2

Technical Description : Bakelite Sheets of this grade are Paper base Bakelite Sheets. Bakelite
Sheets of this grade NEMA X is primarily intended for mechanical applications where electrical
requirements are of secondary importance. It is suitable for electrical applications under oil or
when dry, but high humidity conditions are to be avoided. It is not equal to fabric base grades of
Bakelite in impact strength.

Thickness : Thickness of Bakelite sheets ranges from 0.5 MM – 50.0 MM.

Size : Standard size of Bakelite sheets: 1220 x 1220mm (4 ft x 4 ft) or 1220mm x 610 (4 ft x 2
ft) or 610mm x 610mm (2ft x 2ft) or 2440mm x 1220mm (8ft x 4ft).

Tolerance : Bakelite Sheets are supplied as per tolerance specified in I. More closer tolerance
can be met as per customers’ specific requirement.

humidity conditions are involved. They have good machining properties and are particularly
adapted general electrical insulation, radio subpanels, switch bars, etc.

Thickness : Thickness of Bakelitesheets ranges from 0.4 MM – 50.0 MM. (on special request
sheet more than 50mm also can be supplied)

Technical Description : Bakelite Sheets of Grade XP are paper base Phenolic sheets
manufactured by using a special insulating Paper (a bleached Kraft Paper) as a filler which
Provides excellent electrical Properties and Punching characteristics (hot punching). Grade XP
Bakelite sheets are more flexible and serviceable under humid conditions than Grade X bakelite
Sheets, but not quite as strong. They are mainly used where punching quality are of primary
importance as this Grade XP Bakelite facilitates intricate punching for electrical and mechanical
purposes.
