READING

Souhardya De: Student, Writer & Journalist

Reporter: As we all know, you are a high school student. What
inspired you to become a writer and journalist?
Souhardya De: I wanted to write about the Indian art, culture and
mythology from the perspective of a young generation; that’s why I
became a writer. As for becoming a journalist, although I'm still not
a professional one, it was working at the Statesman VOICES, here
in Kolkata, that inspired me.

R: Why did you start writing?

S: In writing, I find a new world outside schoolbooks. Yes, schoolbooks are important, but
when you enter this land of imagination called writing, you find it so beautiful that you don’t
want to leave.

R: Does writing give you energy or makes you tired?

S: Writing is the source of my enthusiasm, my emotions, my intellect and my creativity.

R: If you were an animal, what animal would you be?

S: An African Lion! Majestic, ferocious, hungry and courageous!

R: Before we sign off, any message you would like to give out to other young writers/ poets?
S: Follow no rules while writing a book or a poem. Build up your imagination, increase your
knowledge and your creativity, sharpen your intellect and win the world with your ink!
