Pharmacist Tanyeem (W.App: 9851276699) Pharmaceutics Suggestion QST. 1) Define Pharmacopeia- (marks-2/3) ANS: Pharmacopoeia is the official book of standards for drugs prepared by any country or regulatory body to specify the standards of identity, purity and strength for the drugs imported, manufactured or distributed throughout the country or a specific region. ‘The term ‘Pharmacopoeia’ was first used in 1580 in a book on drug standards printed in Bergamo, Italy. QST. 2) Drug Compendia: (marks-2/3) ANS: Pharmacopoeias + Formularies = Drug Compendia > Official compendia— Official compendia are the compilation of drugs and other substances recognized as legal standards of purity, quality and strength by government agency of respective countries, British Pharmacopoeia (BP) British Pharmaceutical Codex (BPC) United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) Japanese pharmacopoeia (JP) > Non-Otficial Compendia— The books other than official drug compendia which are used as secondary reference sources for drugs and other related substances are known as non-official drug compendia, * TMerck index ‘+ Martindale (The extra Pharmacopoeia) QST. 3) Define Monograph (Marks-2/3) ANS: tis a collection of detailed information on e particular drug, its dosage forms and methods of analysis. Published by the Govt. of India (Dept. of Health Govt. of india, Dethi) under the name The Indian Pharmacopoeia List 1946. under the chairmanship of Sir R.N. Chopra along with 9 members, Indian Pharmacopoeia committee under chairmanship of Dr. B. N. Ghosh published first edition of IP in 1955. ‘After that, 2 edition was published in 1966, 3° edition in 1985, 4" edition in 1996, 5" edition in 2007, 6" edition in 2010, 7" edition in 2014, 8" edition in.2018 and 9" latest ection in 2024.
