1) Prove the following identities:


1+cos 𝜃
i. (cot 𝜃 + 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐 𝜃)2 =

ii. If sin(𝐴 + 𝐵) = sin 𝐴 cos 𝐵 + cos 𝐴 sin 𝐵 and cos(𝐴 + 𝐵) = cos 𝐴 cos 𝐵 − sin 𝐴 sin 𝐵,

show that tan(𝐴 + 𝐵) = 1−tan 𝐴 tan 𝐵

iii. sin2 𝐴 + sin2 𝐵 + 2 sin 𝐴 sin 𝐵 cos(𝐴 + 𝐵) = sin2(𝐴 + 𝐵)

the center.
12) A spherical metal of diameter 42cm is inserted in an open cylindrical tank of height 14cm and radius
35cm, what capacity of water can the tank now hold? Leave your answer in terms of 𝜋
13) Given the frustum of a cone of radii 1cm & 6cm and height 12cm respectively, find the;
i. curved surface area
ii. total surface area
iii. volume of the frustum Leave your answers in terms of 𝜋.
14) Find the equation of a line which passes through the point (−3, 2) and is parallel to the line 4𝑥 + 3𝑦 −
16 = 0.
15) Find the length of the perpendicular line from the point (3, −3) to the line 8𝑥 + 6𝑦 + 15 = 0
16) Show that the points 𝐴(8, −10), 𝐵(7, −3) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶(0, −4) are vertices of a right-angled triangle
17) Find the equation of a circle centered at (3,4) and passes through the point (6,8)
18) Find the equation of a circle whose diameter’s endpoints are (2,3) and (5,6). Hence, find the radius and
center of the circle.
19) Find the angle between the lines 𝑦 = 3𝑥 + 2 𝑎𝑛𝑑 3𝑦 = 𝑥 − 4
20) A, B and C are the points with the co-ordinates (1,0), (2, –4) and (–5, –2) respectively. Determine the;
i. Equation of the line through B perpendicular to AC
ii. Equation of the line through A perpendicular to BC
iii. Co-ordinate of the intersection of these two lines in (i) & (ii)
21) Find the equation of the tangent and normal to the circle 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 4𝑥 − 8𝑦 + 20 = 0 at the point (1, 2)
22) Find the equation of the circle, whose centre is the point (– 4, 3) and whose radius is 8
23) Find the equation of the tangent at (1, –2) to the circle: 2𝑥 2 + 2𝑦 2 − 3𝑥 + 4𝑦 + 1 = 0
24) A straight road joins three locations A, B and C. the road runs in a direction of 042° from A. A man at a
point P is 75m due south of A. A tower at C has an angle of elevation of 045° from the man. Given that
𝑃𝐶 = 150𝑚 and 𝐴𝐵 = 65𝑚, calculate:
i. The bearing of P from C
ii. The distance between P and B

25) PQ is a straight line leading to R, the foot of a tower. If P is at a distance of 512m from R such that Q is
320m away from P along PR and an angle of elevation of the tower at Q doubles the angle of elevation at
P, find the height of the tower.
26) From the top of a tower the angles of depression of two objects on the same side of the tower are found to
be ∝ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝛽 (∝> 𝛽).If the distance between the object is P meters. Show that the height h of the tower is
𝑃𝑡𝑎𝑛∝𝑡𝑎𝑛 𝛽

27) An airplane flies 180miles from point A at a bearing of 125°. It then turns and flies at a bearing of 230°
for 100miles. How far is the plane from point A?

29) Given the equation of an ellipse 9𝑥 2 + 25𝑦 2 = 225, find the:
i. Length of semi-major and semi-minor axes
ii. Coordinate of the foci

v. Length of the semi-lactus rectum
30) Find the focus and the directrix of the parabola; (𝑖) 𝑦 2 = 6𝑥 (𝑖𝑖) 𝑥 2 = −5𝑦
31) Find the;

of the ellipse: 25𝑥 2 + 16𝑦 2 = 400
32) Find the;

33) Find the focus point and the directrix line of the parabola 𝑦 2 = 28𝑥
