A2 (2) is not necessary is most cases.

A2 (2) is designed for a situation where the student needs

another course to repeat the A2. It could also be used if
some students already did half a year of A2 (the previous
year) and you have new students starting A2. This provides
fresh material.
Getting started
Start the class with a warm up. This should take 5-10
minutes.

Click on the image to open the warm ups.

Here, you will have all the warm ups for each lesson in the
UNIT. Below you have an example of a lesson 3:

find them by opening the folder:

Then go to the number according to instructions in the warm

up page. Like below:

The core
The core should last about 30 minutes for one hour classes
and about 1 hour for 1.5 hour classes.

The core part of the class is for:

➘ grammar
➘ vocabulary
➘ book
➘ activity

The teacher is responsible for managing the class.

There will not always be time to do everything. It depends on

hour long the class is.

1.5 hours is the preferred option to allow enough time.

The best idea is to start with the grammar and the vocabulary
so the students have the information to do the exercises in
the book.

Then move onto the book. Teachers should give homework,

so some book exercises can do done at home. This should
free up some time for the activity.

Sometimes there may not be time for the activity.

Teachers shouldn’t feel pressured or rushed to complete
tasks. For example, if the warm up activity is a hit with the
class and they are enjoying it, teachers can continue with the
activity more than 10 mins. Also, if for example, the students
don’t understand the grammar and more explanation is
needed (some classes tend to ask more questions) then a
teacher shouldn’t feel pressured to rush the students to
complete all the core elements.

The system is designed to be flexible so that teachers can

manage the class in the way they deem best.

The teacher should manage the class according to the how

the class is going and how the students react to the class.

At the end of the day, the goal is for students to learn as

much as possible and have fun doing it.

This is the balance of teaching.

The book
Student book

For each lesson, start with the lesson number and follow the
system horizontally. For example here, if you are on lesson 6,
you are working on UNIT 2; so today you will be doing pages
10 and 11.

So, either click on the student book or if you prefer take the
physical copy. Students should have their own copy too.
As you can see, the vocabulary for today’s lesson is work.
The grammar is present simple & continuous.

Before doing the vocabulary activity in the book open the

work red link and present it to the class.

Go through each slide with the class. Make sure students

understand everything. Ask questions and engage the class.
The vocabulary presentation is a tool. The idea is to reinforce
the unit vocabulary and break the class up so that students
are not just following a book all the time.
You can ask students to make phrases with the vocabulary as
you go along. You can take a ball and throw it to a student
and say:

“Make a phrase with this word. Ok good. Now throw the ball
to another student… Make a phrase with this word”

and so on…

Use the vocabulary presentations as a tool to get the class

USING THE VOCABULARY.

The last slide of the vocabulary usually has a conversation

slide. Here, you can split the class into 2 or 3s, and have
them ask and answers questions between them. Alternatively,
you can read out the questions and have students answer
them individually.

For lower levels, you will probably need to explain the

questions to the students.

Click on the blue grammar links for the grammar

presentations:

Go through the grammar slides in the same way as the

vocabulary slides. Make sure the students understand
everything. Ask questions to the class to keep them engaged.
Again, there is normally a conversation slide at the end.

The conversation slides in the vocabulary and grammar

presentations are an integral part of the speaking in classes.
It’s a great way to break up the lesson and have the students
working together among themselves. Monitor the class, check
for any mistakes they make and correct them.
Activities
Activities vary, so some may take longer than others. This is
where teachers needs to understand how the activity works to
understand how much time is necessary.

Some activities are related to the unit vocabulary or grammar.

Others are recommended activities for those lessons.

Here you can find the activites. Click on the link to open the
activity presentation.
For the entire activities list to access all the possibly activites
you can also go to the EXTRA tab.

Teachers can change the activity if they feel another activity

would be better suited for a particular class.

It is vital for all teachers to familiarize themselves with all the

activities before starting any course.

It is important to utilize the unit vocabulary and

grammar while doing the activities.
Activities look like this:

For the activities, show the presentation to the class. Make

sure they understand everything.

Activities can be speaking games, designing things, working

as a team, doing presentations, playing games or creating
adverts etc.
To find activity materials. Go to:

MEH system – Activities - materials

When you see ‘materials’ and a number in the presentation,

this tells you what material number document you need

Go to the ACTIVITIES folder and open the MATERIALS folder.

Then look for the number.

The example above is for MATERIALS 1

Units
The student book has 12 units.

There are 3 vocabulary aspects and 2 grammar aspects to

each unit.

For the 4th lesson of the unit, teachers should do a

vocabulary and grammar review. That means going over all
the grammar and vocabulary in the unit again with the
students to check they have understood everything. Teachers
can manage this the way they deem necessary i.e. show the
presentations again or use the whiteboards.

Unit test
At the end of every unit, there is a unit test. Students will not
have a copy of this exam so teachers will need to print them
for each student.

If students don’t finish in time, they can take them home to

finish. It is not an official exam; it’s just to check progress.

Click on the speakers for an audio and the light bulbs for the
answers.
Remember to go through the answers with the students
either at the end of the class or the beginning of the next
class.

Click on the unit test to open it:

A2 (2) unit tests look like this:

The unit tests consist of:

➘ Grammar
➘ Reading and listening
➘ Writing
➘ Vocabulary

Unit tests help the teacher and the student measure

progress. Teachers can use the unit tests to help complete
reports on each student.

For A1 (2) and A2 (2) it may not be necessary to do

the entire unit tests again. In this case the teacher
can pick out relevant parts to review and also do an
activity, song and video in the same class as
opposed to spending to whole class doing a unit test
(like A1 and A2)

If you have more than 60 classes (not likely) for the final
classes you can re-do the unit tests.
You can also do extra activities or fun days.
Fun day
After every unit there is a FUN DAY.

This is to give the students something fun to do while

practicing the unit grammar and vocabulary in a fun way. Fun
days are designed for the entirety of the class - 1 hour or 1.5
hours.

Click on the fun day link to open up your options:

The link will take you to a document with options for:

cooking, arts, games day, role-play, robotics or drama

The teacher decides what to do on a fun day.

A lot can depend on a fun day. For example, teachers can

only do a cooking fun day if they have the cooking class on
that rotation.

Teachers should adapt the fun days as best as possible to

the classes they have depending on age, interests, the unit
etc.

Click on the option to open the presentation. Below, a

cooking fun day:
Sometimes there is a video to help you:

For example you can click here for a video:

Voilà!

It is important that before you do any fun day to check that

you have all the ingredients or materials you need.

Check this before you do the class and be organised.

Songs and videos are for the last 20-25 minutes of the class.

Students should have their own book with the song and video
sheets. The song number should match with the page number
of the student book.

For the songs, play the songs twice for the students (in some
cases for lower students they might ask for a third time but
this is rare).

It is normally not necessary to play the entire song, just play

the part the worksheet covers. Then read out the answers.
This should take about 10 mins more or less. For longer
songs it might take 15 minutes.

For the videos, play the videos twice. Students should have a
copy of the video worksheets at the back of the song/video
worksheet book.

For lower levels it might be necessary to pause the videos to

explain.

After you’ve played the video twice, go through the answers

as a class.

Video sheets look like this:

These formats have video questions AND extra material.

Therefore these are repeated over 2 lessons. This way
students have enough time to watch the video and (next
time) complete the extra material.
For levels A1(2) and A2 (2) there are also irregular verbs
presentations. This is an extra option.

Click the links to open the presentations.

These are an extra option for the teacher if needed.

Pearson Portal

The Pearson portal is a website where teachers can add

books and access extra information (activities, audio etc.)

Pressing the symbol on the system will take you here. Click on
the option that says: Pearson English Portal

You will need to create an account.

It is a good idea to create one account for your academy.
That way, all teachers can access the information and share
everything.

Here you can add books. Click on add product. You will
need the code from the first page of the physical book.
Type the code in to add the book to the system.

You can access extra information using the Pearson Portal.

The Pearson Portal is just extra information. All the

information you need to do the course is on the system.
