Server virtualization
Enterprise Vault supports the use of all virtualization technologies that run supported
versions of the Windows operating system.
When you deploy Enterprise Vault on virtual servers, you should consider the
performance limitations of each virtualization platform relative to the information in
the Enterprise Vault Performance Guide. See
https://www.veritas.com/docs/100000918.
Enterprise Vault supports VMware High Availability, and the VMware vCenter
Converter Standalone tool.
Enterprise Vault supports Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV). See AVH Best
Practices Guide.
Citrix
Veritas provides client support for Citrix-based thin client provisioning. This support
is limited to the installation and use of the Enterprise Vault client for Outlook. Support
for Vault Cache and Virtual Vault is included if the following criteria are satisfied:
■ Vault Cache and Virtual Vault must be configured in header-only mode (no
content caching).
■ The network connecting the Citrix server and file server hosting the Vault Cache
and Virtual Vault files must offer high speed and low latency.
■ The Windows operating system and Outlook must be a supported version. Refer
to the appropriate sections in this document.
■ Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-In 14 or later is required.
Veritas does not currently support any aspect of its Enterprise Vault server
infrastructure provisioned via Citrix.
Cloud deployment
Enterprise Vault supports the deployment on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
instance and Azure Virtual machine that run supported versions of the Windows
operating system.
When you deploy Enterprise Vault in the AWS or Azure Cloud, you should consider
the performance limitations of each cloud platform relative to the information in the
Enterprise Vault Performance Guide, available at
http://www.veritas.com/docs/100000918.

IPv6 support
IPv6 support
We recommend that you specify the hostname or the fully qualified domain name
(FQDN) of the server as input.
Enterprise Vault provides general support for IPv6 environments.
For details about the Enterprise Vault IPv6 Support Matrix, see
https://www.veritas.com/docs/100043679.
Note: Support for OAuth (Modern Authentication) is pending for the Veritas
Enterprise Vault Mac client.
Chapter 3
Storage devices,
appliances, and software
This chapter includes the following topics:
■ Introduction
Introduction
This chapter contains information about compatibility between Enterprise Vault and
the storage products to which it can archive data.
Where appropriate, the tables in this chapter indicate the specific third-party product
version that was tested with Enterprise Vault.
If there is a subsequent minor release that provides fixes without changing existing
functionality, Veritas supports use of Enterprise Vault with that minor release unless
stated otherwise.
Veritas supports archiving from Enterprise Vault to any high-performing disk storage
that is:
■ A directly attached or Storage Area Network (SAN) attached volume formatted
as NTFS.
Storage devices, appliances, and software 24
Storage devices: CIFS/SMB
■ Network Attached Storage (NAS) that is accessible over the CIFS/SMB protocol.
For more information, see https://www.veritas.com/docs/100038067.
■ Supported by an Enterprise Vault Storage Streamer API implementation.
■ A Network File System (NFS) share. For more information, see
https://www.veritas.com/docs/100038223.
When the partition is configured on a storage device with Enterprise Vault, the
retention, expiry, deletion of items on storage is managed by Enterprise Vault and
not by the storage device.
Forever (Infinite) retention policy is not supported by all storages; you must use
specific date to define retention. Refer to the storage documentation for the maximum
retention date supported, or contact the storage vendor for more details.

22 For Azure Non-WORM replication - requires Enterprise Vault 15.1 or later.

♦ A standard NTFS file system mounted on fast access media (such as SAN, NAS,
or DAS) is an acceptable platform for Enterprise Vault, offering speed, scalability,
and security. Some vendors offer an NTFS front-end to other media (such as offline
Storage devices, appliances, and software 30
Secondary storage devices
or WORM). Enterprise Vault should work with such systems, but care should be
taken of their specific characteristics, such as slower access speeds. It is
recommended that the index data is not placed on such alternate media, even
though it is NTFS-based.

Note: Compliance Accelerator 15.0 and Discovery Accelerator 15.0 are only
compatible with Enterprise Vault 15.0 or later service packs. Compliance
Accelerator 14.3 is only compatible with Enterprise Vault 14.3 service pack.
■ If the major version of the Accelerator product is the same as the major version
of Enterprise Vault, the minor version (Service Pack) of the Accelerator product
must be the same as, or later than, the minor version of Enterprise Vault.
For example, you can run Compliance Accelerator 14.3 with Enterprise Vault
14.3 servers, but you cannot run Compliance Accelerator 14.2 with Enterprise
Vault 14.3 servers.
■ When upgrading both the Accelerator product and Enterprise Vault, it is important
to upgrade the various components in the correct order. See the upgrade
instructions that accompany your Accelerator product for details.
Audit Server
Compliance Accelerator
Starting with release of Compliance Accelerator 14.1.1, a new feature named
Enhanced Auditing has been introduced. When the Enhanced Auditing feature is
configured and enabled for a customer, the audit records for that customer are sent
to the audit server whenever certain operations and modifications are made to
modules as selected in the Audit Settings tab in Veritas Surveillance (formerly
Veritas Advanced Supervision). Changes to these modules made in Veritas
Surveillance (formerly Veritas Advanced Supervision), Compliance Accelerator, or
both are logged. The Audit viewer tab in Veritas Surveillance (formerly Veritas
Advanced Supervision) lets you search and export audit records for various modules
and operations at the application, department, and folder levels.
Discovery Accelerator
Starting with release of Discovery Accelerator 14.4, a new feature named Enhanced
Auditing has been introduced. When the Enhanced Auditing feature is configured
and enabled for a customer, the audit records for that customer are sent to the audit
server whenever certain operations and modifications are made to modules as
selected in the Audit Settings tab in Discovery Accelerator web client. Changes to
these modules made in Discovery Accelerator are logged. The Audit viewer tab in
