2.1.6 Experiences
i. Through the training period I encountered the demands and challenges that come along
with my field of work for instance relating to different people based on their positional
status and reporting on time on a daily basis.
ii. The attachment period helped me acquire skills and knowledge that are necessary for me
to be able to meet the expectations of my potential employer.
i. Had limited access to organization’s system: due to the controlled access and
confidentiality of Navision system through admin and access password for login limited,
practice of the concept covered during the attachment period.
ii. The institution has some limited resources for instance extensions, HDMI cables and faulty UPSs.
iii. Faulty power supply and system units in the organization: in case of power blackout
uninterrupted power supply goes off to this is an issue as one cannot save the task they
were performing. System unit’s failure due to faulty power supply and hard disk error.
iv. network failures: this was the also a main issue we faced during out attachment period in
which when the power goes off the uninterrupted power supply at the server room can’t
hold enough power for the network supply on the organization and by the time the power
comes it will take time for the server to communicate and supply internet on the
organization
v. Adopting to the working environment: Due to the fact I was in the organization, it took
some times to get used to the working environment. I was not used to this culture and
society this was big challenge.

CHAPTER THREE
3.1 Analysis and observations
Some of the observations made include;
i. At times the wireless network, Wi-Fi, may fail to satisfy all the clients due to its limited
proximity. Some places in the firm lack access to internet connection due to lack of
access points.
3.2 Conclusion
The job scope and duties assigned focused primarily on hardware, software and networking. The
work was highly relevant to the field of study in Information Technology as it includes all computer aspects.
During the period of attachment, valuable knowledge was gained through active participation and inquisitive
learning. Being attached at Kenya School of Government was a great privilege and it gave me a
chance to learn about the institution, gain first-hand experience and skills and interact with
people of different level and workgroup. Also gained knowledge on servers, LAN connection
and IP phones. Skills learned included build of good rapport with the staff and confidence in communication
with senior managers. This industrial attachment proved to have highly supplemented the student’s insight in the
software development world. It was a beneficial and educating experience and I am very grateful. I was able to
improve my skills technically and gain relation skills, data management, documentation,
networking, organizational skills to mention but a few.
During this period, I got the privilege of interacting with students from other diverse institutions
thus helped in the exchange of ideas. My gratitude to the office of Human Resource for blessing
me with this opportunity and would request the office to continue granting other scholars this
opportunity for it has proven to be a life changer.
3.3 Recommendation
The organization should provide attaches’ with temporary user names to enable them practice on
the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). In addition, The IT department should consider providing enough
training of the activities and application used by KSG. I would also recommend that the institution cope
with accelerating change in tech edge for perpetual learning culture, innovation, it space and
expand trust boundaries. I am warm-heartedly Thankful for the cooperation of this organization.
8
I am fortunate enough to get the chance to work with such a wonderful organization like yours.
Therefore, I comment that the Kenya school of government-Baringo should continue to welcome
industrial attaches to gain much career growth and experience in the field of information
technology. Based on the challenges I faced I would recommend the institute to purchase more
resources including HDMIs, UPSs and more computers.
