Question 1: A Catering firm runs cafeteria in each of the four plants of a company in New
Delhi. These are similar to each other in terms of layout, equipment and the services. In 2011,
the average customer capacity of these cafeterias was 210. In 2012, two of the cafeteria
increased their capacity by 10 percent each so that the customer capacity of all of them
became equal. What was the capacity of each of the cafeterias in 2011?
Question 2: The average daily wage of 49 workers is 81. The wage of 50th worker is 49
more than the average wage of all the workers. Calculate:
(i) the wage of 50th worker and
(ii) the average wage of all 50 workers.
Question 3: The sales report of a company, selling power generators, reveals the following:
"The average number of generators sold in the past 20 weeks is 24. The best five weeks
averaged sale of 35 generators while the worst five weeks had sales of 7, 8, 10, 12 and 14
generators." You are required to :
(a) Find the average sales of the remaining 10 weeks.
(b) Determine the number of generators needed to be sold in the 21 week so that the overall
average becomes 25 sets.
Q4. You are given the following age distribution of a sample of 600 employees of an
insurance company:

(a) Calculate the median age.


(b) Obtain the range of age of middle 50 percent of the employees.
(c) If the company plans to retire 10 percent of the eldest (by age) employees, what is the
minimum age of the retired?
Question 5: The following information has been derived from the income distribution of
1,200 families in 111 a city. State clearly which partition values are represented by each of
the statements.
(a)The lowest income of the richest 30 percent families is 11,242.
(b) The number of families earning above and below 78,150 is 600 each.
(c) A total of 70 percent of the families pay income-tax and the minimum taxable income is
2,800.
(d) The first 480 families earn a maximum income of 3,634.
(e) The income level of 16,666 is exceeded by one-tenth of the families.
(f) The poorest ten percent of the families are to get a grant from the state. No one with
income exceeding 1,280 is eligible.

Question 6: Calculate mean deviation(i) about mean, and (ii) about median for the following
frequency distribution:

Q8. An investor buys Rs 12,000 worth of shares of a company each month. During the first 5
months he bought the shares at a price of Rs 100, Rs 120, Rs 150, Rs 200, and Rs 240 per
share respectively. After 5 months what is the average price paid by him for the shares?

Q10. The mean monthly salary paid to all employees in a company is Rs 16,000. The mean

respectively. Determine the of technical percentage and non-technical employees in the
company.
Q11. The mean marks in statistics of 100 students in a class was 72 per cent. The mean marks
of boys was 75 per cent, while their number was 70 per cent. Find out the mean marks of
girls in the class.
Q12. You are given the frequency distribution of 292 workers of a factory according to their
average weekly income.

Q13. A study of the age of 100 persons grouped 24-26... revealed the mean age and standard
deviation to be 32.02 and 13.18 respectively. While checking, it was discovered that the
observation 57was misread as 27. Calculate the correct mean age and standard deviation.
