guidelines are designed to help you be successful in science.

TEXTBOOK: (Online) CK!2 Biology textbook https://flexbooks.ck12.org/cbook/ck-12-biology-flexbook-2.0/

SUPPLIES
Calculator (cell phone will work) set of colored pencils/ (12 colors minimum)
1.5 to 2 inch three ring binder glue stick
Spiral Notebook (min 100 pages) scissors (a good pair)
6 inch ruler—metric/English—transparent Dry erase florescent

ORGANIZATION IS IMPORTANT
Your 3 ring notebook should contain:
 Lecture notes
 Handouts
 Tests/Quizzes
 Homework assignments
 Labs

With a well-organized notebook, a student will be able to achieve success in the course.
Notebooks allow the student, parent and teacher to easily monitor student progress.

ASSIGNMENTS and LATE WORK

All assignments are due when called for and are considered late after that time.
Long-term assignments are due on the date even if the student is absent.
Rewriting: If you score below 90% on any major assignment, essay, lab, etc. you may do a rewrite. In
order to rewrite an assignment, you must meet with me to discuss your work and set a time for it to be due.
If Lab materials are unavailable the Lab may not be made up.
Cooperation: You are encouraged to discuss labs and homework with each other and to use outside
resources for help. However, any final product must be your own work.

MAKE-UP WORK FOR ABSENCES

Absences: Remember that absences from classes are very hard to make up but not impossible. We don't
want you in school if you are sick; you will be given an opportunity to make up all work that was missed. If
you will have an extended absence, ask for homework requests in order to keep up. If you are absent due
to sports, make up the class the next day. Special projects and research reports where you have
advance, long-term notice of due dates are due whether you are in school that day or not (excused,
unexcused or sports activity).
 The student is responsible for checking with the teacher for assignments when returning from an
absence.
 If you are absent the day of a test, or on the day prior to a test, you must take the test on the day
you return to school. Make arrangements with the teacher for the test make-up.
 Usually, all makeup test and quizzes will be in essay form.
GRADING Weight in Grade Book
 Semester Final exam.…………………………………..……….15%
 Assessments (tests & quizzes)………………………………....35%
 Labs/Long-term projects/Case Studies…. …………………….30%
 Class work/Homework/Pretests………………………………...10%

Report card grades are cumulative over the semester.

Biology: A = 100-90 B = 89.9-80 C = 79.9-70 D = 69.9-60 F = 59.9 and below

Students will have 48 hours to protest incorrect grades after they are posted or handed back. Students are
responsible for producing assignments in question from their notebooks.

TEST CORRECTIONS & RETESTING

 Tests only can be corrected and then the student may retest.—up to a max score of 90%
 Students will have a maximum of two weeks to retest after the original test is returned.
 Finals may not be corrected and retested.
 After Finals previous tests and quizzes may not be corrected and retested.

CLASSROOM POLICIES
 Come to class prepared and on time. Bring all materials to class each day.
 No food is allowed in lab areas during lab days.
 Follow directions. Demonstrate appropriate behavior. Be kind and courteous to teachers, substitutes,
fellow students and any other animals we have in the classroom.
 Be safe and careful with all laboratory materials.
 Never intimidate, make fun of, or put down another person.

Behaviors that damage learning

 Tardiness.
 Improper cell phone use.
 Leaving the classroom during class time.
 Bullying and or harassing another student or teacher

The above behaviors will be addressed immediately, and students will be held accountable for their
actions. All students will then work through a plan the resolves the behavior. Parents and Vice principals
will be involved in the process.

Any negative report from a substitute about a particular student will result in a referral to the Vice
Principal/Principal. This policy has been discussed with the Vice Principal/Principal.
