Lesson plan template (READING LESSON)

Lesson plan template provided by the Ministry of Education


SUBJECT : ENGLISH

YEAR : Year 5

DURATION : 1 hour

THEME : World of self, family and friends

TOPIC : Starter unit

CONTENT : 3.2 Understand a variety of linear and non-linear print and digital
texts by using appropriate reading strategies

STANDARD
4.2 Communicate basic information intelligibly for a range of
purposes in print and digital media
LEARNING : 3.2.2 Understand specific information and details of two paragraphs
or more

STANDARD 4.2.4 Describe people, places and objects using suitable


statements

LEARNING :
At the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. Answer at least 3/5 objective questions correctly after
OBJECTIVES reading the text given.

2. Write at least 2/3 simple sentences using the adjectives


from the text in pairs.
LANGUAGE FOCUS : Adjective

ACTIVITIES: i. PRE- : 1. Teacher writes a few adjectives and pupils match the pictures
accordingly.

LESSON 2. Teacher explains about adjectives and introduces the topic.

ii. LESSON : 3. Pupils read the text given silently after teacher asks a few
DEVELOPMENT questions. Eg: What’s the name of the first, second and third
writer?

4. Teacher ask a few some other questions to check their


understanding.

5. Pupils answer the questions given.

6. Pupils do peer checking before teacher checks the answer.

7. Pupils write down all the adjectives from the text.

8. Pupils choose their favourite 3 adjectives and make 3 simple


sentences in pairs.

9. Teacher checks their answers.

iii. POST-LESSON : 10. Pupils take turns to ask and answer questions.
Eg: What have you got in your pocket / on your desk / under your
bed? They include an adjective in
their answer: I have a small notebook in my pocket.

11. Teacher consolidates the lesson.
