NDSC Laptop Parent Letter 2024
NDSC Laptop Parent Letter 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians
Bring your own device (BYOD) programs are common practice in Victorian Secondary Schools and we
believe a personal computer allows students to access information, enhance and extend their learning
and demonstrate understanding in creative and innovative ways. There are significant educational
benefits for students to be able to combine digital technology learning with the more ‘traditional’
learning methods.
In 2024, ALL students at Neerim District Secondary College will be required to have their own laptop to
support their learning.
Option 1 (Preferred)
Parents/Carers purchase a Neerim District Secondary College approved laptop via our third-party
provider, Learning with Technologies, using the Neerim District Secondary College Order Portal (see
link below).
We currently have four devices on our portal, three Windows devices and a Chromebook:
- Lenovo 100w 11” (low-cost, entry-level device, suitable for years 7-9)
- Lenovo 500w 12.2” (midrange cost, touch screen, with tablet mode)
- Lenovo L13 Yoga 13.3” (very capable, suitable for years 10 - 12)
- Lenovo 14e Chromebook 14” (large screen, simple device, suitable for all year levels)
The portal is open and ready to receive orders right now! - https://ndsc.orderportal.com.au
If you require assistance to determine the most suitable device for your child, please do not hesitate to
contact the school and speak with our IT Team.
Option 2
Parents/Carers can purchase a device from any supplier provided it meets the college-specified
minimum standard below;
To make a confidential inquiry about a laptop hardship application, please make an appointment with
the Business Manager.
Please note:
• Available BYOD models may change model and price without notice during the school year.
• Finance options available on the BYOD portal are private agreements between parents and
the providers. Please ensure you understand all aspects of the agreement before
committing.
• Purchasing of Insurance is highly recommended, any repairs outside of insurance are the
responsibility of the device owner. Some damage repairs can incur costs higher than the
purchase price of the devices.
Having a suitable device for study will be part of our Positive Orderly Learning Environment (POLE)
expectations from Term 1, 2024. If any families have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
Kind Regards
Michael Shone
Principal
