1. I have important news regarding your husband`s condition, is this a good
time for the discussion?
2. For this kind of difficult discussions people want somebody close to be with
them, is there anyone that you would like to call?
3. Storytelling…...unfortunately the CT scan showed that your husband has a
massive bleed in his brain, I`m very sorry to say that your husband is in
terminal condition (Critical)

-Once opened up, explore
What do you drink? How much do you drink? Since when do you drink? What
else do you drink?
Reassure
Anything can happen, I just don`t want you to risk your career and license
-Not professional / put your reputation at risk / patient will not trust us / agains
good medical practice

If case tells you doctor was drinking/sniffing then review their patients and
ask them to go home
Escalate to senior
