Topic: Photosynthesis

Notes:

1. Photosynthesis is a process by which green plants and some other organisms convert light
energy into chemical energy.
2. The process takes place in the chloroplasts of plant cells.
3. The main pigment involved in photosynthesis is chlorophyll, which gives plants their green color.
4. Photosynthesis can be divided into two stages: the light-dependent reactions and the light-
independent reactions (Calvin cycle).
5. In the light-dependent reactions, light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll and converted into
chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH.
6. The light-independent reactions (Calvin cycle) use the ATP and NADPH produced in the light-
dependent reactions to convert carbon dioxide into glucose and other organic molecules.
7. Oxygen is released as a byproduct of photosynthesis.
8. Photosynthesis is essential for life on Earth, as it provides the primary source of energy for most
living organisms.
