LET’S COMPARE
1. Use different chatbots to search for the exact same thing and compare the results
with a partner.
2. What’s the difference? Which one is better (generate better ideas/ easier to use)?
Can you use all ideas from the search results of do you need to be selective?
3. Some ideas for prompts: lesson plans or activities for a language/ skills lesson;
language analysis for a target language item; background reading for an EFL topic
HOW TO CREATE PROMPTS FOR CHATBOTS
(OpenAI, 2024)
1. Know exactly what you’re looking for/ what you want the AI to do.
Do you want to generate content? To look for information? To search for materials?

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
■ Make sure to check with your institution about the policy of using AI.
■ DO NOT treat AI-generated work as your own. This is plagiarism.
■ It’s important to be ETHICAL and TRANSPARENT when using AI. e.g. treat AI just as you treat other
references/ background reading in your assignments/ academic work.
■ How to cite the use of AI in your academic work.
a. Make sure to start a new search every time you use it – to create a link for the reference list.
b. In-text citation: Example of in-text citation: When given the prompt “how to create complete
focused and good prompts for chatbot” the ChatGPT-generated text indicated that the prompts
need to be specific, focused, and contextualised (OpenAI, 2024).
c. Example of reference list (APA style) - this needs to include: author of the model (OpenAI), date
(the year of the version used in brackets, title (the name of the model ,(ChatGPT) italicised, the
descriptor (Creating effective chatbot prompts) in square brackets, and source (the URL that links as
directly as possible to the source). Example: OpenAI. (2024). ChatGPT (Aug 21 version) [Creating

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
■ Use AI to GENERATE IDEAS not whole assignments/ lesson plans and ALWAYS USE IT CRITICALLY! E.g.
Do your own research, adapt and contextualise the output, and analyse the content generated by AI
critically. Use your common sense.
■ Remember that AI tools generate answers based on a large corpus of text data from the internet;
therefore, it might show biases or even wrong/ fake information.
■ Relying on AI can cause students (and teachers) to become too lazy to exercise their due diligence.
Make sure to use AI to support your work NOT to replace your work (e.g. don’t just copy and paste
answers from AI tools)
