Dr. Aravind kumar Rengan is currently an Associate Professor at IIT Hyderabad. He had a successful
start in academics, obtaining merit seat for his M.B.B.S at Thanjavur Govt. Medical College (Tamilnadu
Dr.M.G.R Medical University). During his medical internship, he was captivated by research in the
emerging field of nanoscience and technology. This made him to take up Master in Nano-medical
sciences at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular medicine-DST Centre of Excellence. Owing
to his competitive academic performance he was able to secure University rank and Department of
Science and Technology (DST) fellowship. Immediately after his masters in nanomedical sciences he
was selected for his PhD at IIT Bombay. Dr. Aravind is an aggressive learner of nanomedicine and its
practical application in biomedical research. Dr. Aravind was instrumental in getting the “The Bill and
Melinda Gates” project on “Transdermal TB drug delivery – TB NANODOTS” during his PhD tenure.
Dr. Aravind through his research work was able to synthesize a biodegradable nanosystem for
photothermal therapy of cancer and proved its in-vivo biodegradability. His work has been
published in reputed international high impact journals (Nanoletters, Nanoscale, ACS -AMI,
Biomacromolecules, etc,). Dr. Aravind was instrumental in securing the “The Bill and Melinda Gates”
project on “Transdermal TB drug delivery”. His research work has won several awards including the
INSA & NASI Young Scientist, INAE Young Engineer, DBT IYBA, etc. Dr. Aravind’s project on “ Affordable
kit for detection of Cervical Cancer” has gained significant momentum and could be used as a
screening test (GYTI Award 2017). Dr. Aravind is among the few Indian Biomedical Engineers with
inter-disciplinary background (MBBS with M.Tech & PhD in BME), who stand proof for performing
excellent bioengineering research by working in India itself.
