OVEN

Introduction

Drying ovens

Ovens used for drying soil shall incorporate a temperature control which can be
set to maintain a selected temperature within the range 45⁰C to 110⁰C. Ovens
shall be capable of maintaining the temperature required for the test to within
±2.5⁰C as measured at a point in the middle of the working space. Wach oven
shall have provision for inserting a calibrated temperature-indicating device.

Drying ovens shall be calibrated in accordance with 5.4.41

1.Visual Inspection:

Check for any visible damage to the oven or any of its components. Check all
electrical connections and ensure that they are tight and secure. Inspect safety
features such as emergency stop button, safety interlocks, and safety sensors.

2.Temperature Calibration:

Verify that the temperature settings are accurate by comparing them to a


calibrated thermometer. Adjust if necessary- see manual for more information.

3.Air Circulation:

Ensure that the fans are working properly to maintain even temperature
distribution throughout the oven.

4.Cleaning: Clean the interior of the oven using appropriate materials to


remove any debris, residues, or contaminants that could affect test result.

5.Saftey Features: Test the safety features, such as the emergency stop
button or over- temperature alarm, to ensure they are functioning correctly.

6.Record Keeping:

Keep a log of the daily checks for the temperature which is indicated at the
bottom on a small display and any problems encountered, together with the
actions taken to solve them will be communicated to the Quality Control
Department.

7. Documentation Review:

Review the manufacturer’s manual for any specific maintenance requirements


or recommendations for the oven.

Take 2 readings from front top (left and right) corner and 2 from Front Bottom
(left and right) one reading from centre 2 readings from back top corner (left
and right) and Back Bottom Corner (Left and Right)
