Hadith 1

Translation:
‘Religion is sincerity.’ We said: ‘To whom?’ The Prophet said: ‘To Allah, His Book, His
Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and to their common people.’

(a) Teachings:
✓ Islam insists on true and wholehearted faith.
✓ Honest and true faith is needed in the foundational beliefs as well as towards
headmen, leaders and the members of the community.
✓ The Divine Messages, delivered by the Quran and conveyed to us by the messengers
strongly meant to have faith in them. This intends strong credence and trust in
Oneness of God.
✓ The leader, who acts upon the teachings of Quran and governs according to Sunnah
must be sincerely followed, as the Holy Quran instructs: “And obey God and obey
the Messenger and those charged with authority among you.” (4:59)
✓ Islam teaches that actions executed with dedication and enthusiasm will be
rewarded fully while actions performed with less zeal and commitment will be
rewarded on light scale. In short, Islam highly motivates to have sincere and true
feelings for virtuous things.
✓ Our sincerity and wholeheartedness in beliefs and actions sum up our entire
religion. That’s why Muslims should believe in caring and respecting for the
fellowmen in the community.

(b) Practice:
✓ Belief in oneness of God, Quran and the last Messenger Muhammad (PBUH) is
exemplified by following the infinite guidance of the Quran and Sunnah.
✓ Muslims should be faithful and sincere with Prophet (PBUH) by acting upon his
Sunnah and preaching his teachings to others.
✓ Being a Muslim we must comply with the five pillars of Islam: “And establish
regular prayer and pay the charity tax”
✓ In the matter of cooperating with the headmen or leader of the community or
nation, Muslims should look back on the speech delivered by Abu Bakr on his
election as a first caliph of Islam : “Help me if I am in the right, set me right if I am
in the wrong”
✓ Likewise, Muslims ought to be sincere towards men by showing kindness, politeness
and respect to them.
Page 4

Hadith 2

Translation:
None of you believes until he wants for his brother what he wants for himself.

(a) Teachings:
✓ Islam places emphasis on socialization. For stronger social connection Islam chains
believers in relation of brotherhood. “Believers are a single brotherhood” (49:10)
✓ This connection of brotherhood has been initiated by Allah Himself. That’s why all of
the Muslims are advised to make it part of their faith.
✓ A heart without with genuine faith is always linked with love, care and affection for
the fellow men of the community, while a heart lacking love and care for the fellow
men is devoid of true faith.
✓ Absence of faith is not meant by “None of you believes” but it makes reference to
imperfect faith. This means that we are lacking faith if we do not show sincere love,
care and equal attitude towards our brothers.

(b) Practice
✓ We should nullify self-seeking and self-obsession, instead we ought to promote and
upgrade spirit of sacrifice, care and love for people.
✓ We should spread sheltering arms in order to relieve others from sorrows and
grievance and ensure comfort and benefits for others as much as for ourselves. As
the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is recorded to have said, “It is more beneficial for one to
give his land free to his brother than to charge him a fixed rental” and: “That
you desire for others that what you desire for yourself”
✓ True Muslims never regard others with contempt. Neither they taunt others nor call
them by insulting or offensive nick names.
✓ We should speak kind, soft and gentle words to others. We are not supposed to
smash ties with fellow brothers and should make schemes in re-establishing good
relations.
✓ They are also not supposed to break ties with fellow brothers and should take
initiative in re-establishing good relations.
Page 5

Hadith 3

Translation
Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day either speak good or keep silent, and
let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour, and let
him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest.

(a) Teachings
✓ This Hadith gives us lesson about the characteristics of believers.
✓ Amongst the blessed fellows is the one who has been granted the power of speech. It
is not only a gratuity by God but also a medium of expressing faith “He has created
man. He has taught him the speech (and intelligence),” (55:3, 4)
✓ Let not harsh words ruin the good we may do. A believer should learn “To keep
quiet is better than telling a bad thing”.
✓ The words spoken or the actions done by us are always written in the Divine Record
by angels. We will be responsible and answerable of our speech and our actions
towards others.
✓ A number of evils, misdeeds, lawbreaking crimes, sins and indecencies arise misuse
of the tongue, that’s why the one who ties his tongue and keeps silence is promised
for entrance to Heaven by Prophet (PBUH).
✓ Faith can be demonstrated by observing acts of worship as well as by being kind to
others. That’s why Muslims are commanded to express good moral and social
behaviour to others.

(b) Practice
✓ Muslims should stay away from all indecencies and immorality : “Believers will
surely get through ………who avoid vain talk” (23:1-2)
✓ Generous hospitality should be shown towards relatives, neighbours, guests, friends
and commoners around us “He is not a true believer who eats to his fill but his
neighbor sleeps hungry” and “Whoever believes in God and the last day should
no harm his neighbor, and whoever believes in God should honour his guest”
✓ Muslims should follow the noble examples of Prophet (PBUH). He has set a number
of examples of hospitality and morality towards both Muslims and non-Muslims.
✓ A tongue is blessed when it mumbles praises of Allah. Rather than speaking
unnecessarily, we ought to hold our tongue and keep quiet.
✓ Think hundred times when words are not spoken but once something is uttered,
stand by it like a man of pledge or morals. Always speak less but wise.
✓ Our words or speeches should be free from abusive language as well as harsh and
rude tone, instead soft, kind and gentle words should be used to cause joy with it for
Page 6

others.

Hadith 4

Translation
A man asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace): Do
you think that if I perform the obligatory prayers, fast in Ramadan, treat as lawful
that which is lawful and treat as forbidden that which is forbidden, and do nothing
further, I shall enter paradise? He said: Yes

(a) Teachings:
✓ The secret of access to Paradise is revealed in this Hadith.
✓ The structure of faith is based on five main pillars of Islam. The two of them, prayer
and fasting, are clearly stated here. The entry to Paradise shall surely be granted to
those who act upon the instructions in this Hadith or else disobedient can be thrown
into hell-fire: “He who gives up prayer has indeed disbelieved.” “What stands
between a believer and disbelief is abandonment of regular prayer” “The fast is
a shield (against Satan).”
✓ These two pillars instruct the followers to have faith in the momentousness of the
lawful and the unlawful.“…….he (the Prophet) allows them as lawful what is good
and prohibits them from what is bad” (7:157)
✓ The conclusion can be extracted from the Hadith that by fulfilling obligations and
discriminating correctly between the permissible and forbidden deeds are quite
enough for one to be blessed with Paradise.
✓ The rest of the obligations will also be inquired after them like Zakat, Hajj and
fasting as they are the pillars of Islam.

(b) Practice:
✓ We must be consistent and regular in offering prayers. Punctuality in daily prayers
is needed most as it keeps us apart from evils and wrongdoings : “Verily, regular
prayer refrains from shameful and unjust deeds” (29:45)
✓ We should fast in Ramadan with all of its moral principles and necessities to
upgrade our self-control.
✓ Observance of regular prayers and fasting trains us to take up a right and to give up
wrong. That is why we accept what is permitted and reject what is forbidden: “So
take what the Messenger gives you and refrain form what he prohibits you”
(59:7)
Page 7

✓ In the light of this Hadith Muslims are advised to get to know about the allowable
and prohibited practices (actions and speeches) for them.
✓ We are advised to be decent and proper in our choices. We should strictly keep
ourselves away from unethical, evil and sinful practices. Minor and major both kinds
of sins should be refrained. Instead we should decide on practicing moral and
ethical values like truthfulness, sincerity, forgiveness and mercifulness.
✓ Such self training will make certain separate and individual and mutual prosperity
in this world and the Hereafter.

Hadith 5

Translation
Every person’s every joint must perform a charity every day the sun comes up: to
act justly between two people is a charity; to help a man with his mount, lifting him
onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it is a charity; a good word is a charity;
every step you take to prayers is a charity; and removing a harmful thing from the
road is a charity.

(a)Teachings
✓ Different types of charities are focused on in this Hadith .
✓ Charity is the act of worship that is done to express gratefulness to Almighty Allah
for His blessings .
✓ Two types of charity are mentioned in this Hadith; financial charity and non-
financial charity. Financial donations are given to express gratefulness of wealth and
wealth-worthy materials, while non-financial charities are performed to express
thankfulness and gratitude for the might and health Allah has blessed us with.
✓ Physical fitness and power is a gift of God. With the help of our body we can perform
thousands of non-financial charities.
✓ Non-financial charity means moral, ethical and virtuous deeds i.e. resolving clashes
and disputes of the people and removing obstacles from the roads. The Prophet
(PBUH) said “Every good act is charity”. Your smile for one’s sake is also a charity.
To respect someone, to say something softly, to take steps towards prayers are also
non-financial charities.
✓ A good deed could be warm-heartedness in attitude, gentleness in speech and
unselfishness in behaviour and deeds.
Page 8

✓ It is mandatory for us to offer moral and ethical deeds through our body organs in
order to be thankful to Allah for He has bestowed us with might and health.
✓ It is charity that quenches the wrath of Almighty Allah. The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Charity certainly quenches the wrath of your Lord and puts away the evil
death”.
✓ This Hadith emphasizes charity and other proceedings that are advantageous to
others “The best among the people are those who are a source of benefit to the
people” (Hadith).

(b) Practice
✓ True Muslims always mould their behaviour and activities in such a way that helps
the people in daily affairs.
✓ They should try to end clashes and quarrels among the people because the Quran
says: “Believers are a single brotherhood; therefore make peace between your
two contending brothers” (49:10)
✓ The Prophet (PBUH) founded Islamic society based on three major principles. One
of them is brotherhood. We should never be intolerant or partial on the basis of
races, genders, colours and languages. If we are given authority as a judge we should
do justice.
✓ We should be well-mannered and sagacious in our speech; we should preach the
teachings of God.
✓ Islam has broadened the scope of charity so that we may do charity in abundance.
✓ Apart from financial donations we should be quick in offering prayers, sharing the
burden of commoners, removing anything that is harmful and so on.

Hadith 6

Translation
Whosoever of you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand, and if he is not
able to do so then with his tongue, and if he is not able to do so then with his heart,
and that is the weakest of faith.

(a) Teachings
✓ This Hadith intimates the system and strategy to initiate an impartial, fair and
peaceful society founded on the teachings of God and His Prophet (PBUH) where
every person is given his/her rights. Moreover everyone is instructed to defend
Page 9

their society against all the evil and wrongdoings by any manners, either by hand, by
tongue or by heart.
✓ A headman, boss, guardian or anyone who has full authority can resist and cease
evils physically. The one who has been blessed with magical speaking power can do
so verbally and in general should do it spiritually, though it is the lowest degree of
faith.
✓ First and the most important consideration is given to oppose evil physically The
Prophet (PBUH) said “Help your brother when he does wrong or wrong is done to
him”.
✓ Muslims are advised to take it into consideration that endeavour against evils is a
continual occurrence as the fundamental source of evil is Satan: “Verily Satan is an
avowed enemy to man” (12:5)
✓ According to this hadith Muslims are supposed to work against evil day in and day
out in order to protect faith and remain far from evil

(b) Practice
✓ Expunging evil necessitates struggle of highest degrees depending on the
conveniently obtainable resources with the community and the government.
✓ If adequate amenities are obtainable, the the Muslim state may rightfully give
permission of physical Jihad: “Believers……….. strive hard in God’s way with their
possessions and their own selves” (49:15)
✓ Or else, evil can be put down by means of speeches or writings or in case person is
not able to make use of either resources, he is required to keep his distance from
evil and shun it internally.
✓ The best reason for doing this is to seek God’s refuge: “Say I seek refuge with the
Lord of day-break. From the evil of the things created” (al-Falaq)
✓ We are supposed to support the sufferer and take a stand against victimizer.
✓ We should encourage the good and discourage and forbid evil. We ought to evaluate
evil as evil and completely stay far away from it in order to protect our faith.

Hadith 7

Translation:
It was said: O Messenger of Allah, who is the most excellent of men? The Messenger
of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘The believer who strives
hard in the way of Allah with his person and his property.’
Page 10

(a) Teachings
✓ This Hadith focuses on the decencies of Jihad which means “Struggle in the way of
Allah” Jihad is an act of worship that demonstrates genuineness of faith.
✓ Jihad is endeavoured to achieve virtues of Islam. Such as; to crush evil, to put an end
to aggression, to stop transgression and to squash vices… etc but within the
boundaries suggested by the code of conduct of war in Islam.
✓ Muslims are of the opinion that all the physical and financial resources, we are
making use of are awarded by God, and so, they prepare the courage of placing them
for the sake of God.
✓ Islam instructs us that Jihad is unalterable on devotes and offering Jihad is
prestigious and highly esteemed.
✓ The conclusion derived from the Hadith is, whoever offers external and internal
types of Jihad, obtains the rank of excellence in Islam.
✓ According to the Muslims’ beliefs, whoever gives his life struggling in the way of God
is not dead but he is alive: “Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence
of their Lord.” (3:169)

(b) Practice
✓ Jihad is the fundamental declaration of one’s faith as it requires giving away
everything even your life in the way of God defending Islam.
✓ Mujahideen (those engaged in Jihad) are taught to offer up their lives and
belongings in God’s way without second thought: “Fighting is prescribed to you
though you may dislike it” (2:216)
✓ Those engaged in Jihad are highly esteemed and ranked as the best Muslims by the
Quran and the Prophet (PBUH) for the abovementioned reason.
✓ Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself participated in many battles, met with serious
injuries and wounds and also watched martyrdom of his close companions.
✓ Hadhrat Hamza, Prophet’s (PBUH) uncle, migrated twice for Islam and subsequently
sacrificed his life in the Battle of Uhad. So, he was declared as “The Chief of all the
martyrs” by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
✓ It is our duty to donate open handedly for the cause of Allah to collaborate with
Mujahideen as the beloved companions of Prophet (PBUH) set a great example of
generosity at Tabuk.
Page 11

Hadith 8

Translation
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘Whom do
you count to be a martyr among you?’ They said: O Messenger of Allah, whoever is
killed in the way of Allah is a martyr. He said: 'In that case the martyrs of my
community will be very few! He who is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr, he who
dies a natural death in the way of Allah is a martyr, he who dies in the plague in the
way of Allah is a martyr, he who dies of cholera in the way of Allah is a martyr.’

(a) Teachings
✓ Islam highly regards martyrdom as “Holy”. Muslims are enthusiastic about dyeing as
martyr as they will gain access to Paradise without judgment. The Prophet (PBUH)
said “Fire will not touch the foot that trod in the way of Allah.”
✓ Generally Muslims are of the opinion that martyrs are only those who lay down
their lives during the battle.
✓ The Hadith has made the span of martyrdom a lot bigger by incorporating those not
connected exactly in any physical fight (Jihad) in the way of God.
✓ It is extracted from some Hadiths that there are some non-war martyrs which
include those who undergo sudden or continuous pain that finally kill them.
✓ For instance, natural death in the way of Allah, death from plague and cholera. The
Prophet (PBUH) said, “The one drowned in water till death is martyr”.
✓ “In the way of God” is frequently mentioned in this Hadith that means to die in a
state of strong faith in God.

(b) Practice
✓ True Muslims are always eager to sacrifice their lives in the way of God.
✓ Believers should prosper the sparkle of tolerating all terrible, serious, extreme and
deadly sufferings with a strong belief that every single thing is by the prime will of
Almighty Allah who solely has authority to give life and death.
✓ They should be willing to lay down their lives during fighting in the way of God on
God’s command as well as during any serious sort of physical illness with this
Quranic instruction: “…….but give glad tidings to those who patiently preserve.
Who say, when afflicted with calamity: To God we belong, and to Him is our
return” (2:155-156)
✓ Thus, any sort of serious illness and unexpected trial will never be able to weaken
their faith and they will not hesitate to take up arms in the battlefield.
Page 12

✓ If someone is undergoing in untreatable disease, he should not become

downhearted.
✓ One should keep patience to receive the everlasting and should stimulate oneself
that after this short-term suffering there is a luxurious life without suffering and
disease.

Hadith 9

Translation
No one eats better food than that which he eats out of the work of his hand

(a) Teachings
✓ Legal and allowable earning is given as importance as other compulsory worships in
Islam: “To earn a clean living is also a duty next to the obligatory duties of faith”
✓ Rather than being dependent on others, Muslims are instructed to be hard-working
and earn by legitimate and fair means: “One who works for himself is a friend of
God”.
✓ This means that Muslims can aim to birds with one stone that by earning with his
own hands he not only earns material bounties but also Allah’s favour and pleasure.
✓ Islam gives us lesson that earning for living by lawful means is not only the act of
worship but also removes evil and sins. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The sins of a
person who returns home exhausted in search of lawful earning are forgiven by
Allah”.
✓ The roof of income is also evaluated. We have to earn by means of legal sources only
to hate to earn by means of illegal sources.

(b) Practice
✓ The believers should act in accordance with the example of the Prophet (PBUH) who
placed a number of benchmarked examples.
✓ The Prophet (PBUH)would readily get involved in the construction of the mosque
and digging of the trench. He would cobble his shoes and stitch his cloths. He also
worked as a shepherd and tradesman.
✓ As per the teaching of this Hadith we must quit all illegal, unlawful and undesirable
sources of income such as gambling, usury, bribery, extortion, corruption and
begging. All of these methods of earning are strictly prohibited by Allah and His
Prophet (PBUH): “The one who offers and the one who accepts the bribe will both
go to the Fire of Hell”.
Page 13

✓ We should carry out the Quranic order: “Eat of what is on earth, lawful and good,
and do not follow footsteps of Satan” (2:168)
✓ Forbidden means of earnings have to be rejected like selling drugs, alcohol,
intoxicating, illegal weapons, musical instruments, movies etc .
✓ It is better to work and earn than being sustained and pious.
✓ Greed is a curse. We should not be greedy and possessive after money every time. It
is a substandard and bad habit.

Hadith 10

Translation
One who manages the affairs of the widow and the poor man is like the one who
exerts himself in the way of Allah, or the one who stands for prayer in the night or
fasts in the day.

(a) Teachings
✓ This is the beauty of Islam that it instructs the followers to flourish a perception of
fulfilling the rights of God as well as those of the human beings.
✓ Islam lays stress on taking good care of the less privileged in the community. Such
people have been made equal in reward by the Prophet (PBUH) to a constant
worshipper and the one who struggles in the way of Allah (Jihad).
✓ Allah is pleased with those who offer obligatory rituals. His pleasure can be gained
by voluntary worships as well as by helping others.
✓ This Hadith teaches us that lending a helping hand to less privileged, poor,
penniless, destitute, and needy people is as virtuous as offering worships like
prayers, fasting, Hajj and Jihad.
✓ The act of helping the poor, needy, and hungry is linked with true faith by the Holy
Quran. Those who failed to do so are declared as the rejecters of faith:“Have you
seen the one who denies the judgment?....... and who does not encourage the
feeding of the indigent”. ( 107, al-Ma’un)

(b) Practice:
✓ The believers ought to give assistance to the needy, poor and destitute in order to
obtain pleasure of God.
✓ The assistance should be given to them to please Allah rather than to be seen by the
people.
Page 14

✓ The believers should act in accordance with the examples of their role model, the
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)who wedded the widows and gave away his share of
meal on numerous occasions to those in need:“Nor repulse the petitioner unheard”
(al-Duha, 93)
✓ The needy people should be lent a helping hand by constant charity is such a way
that their self-respect, honour, and ego should not be hurt : “There is a man who
gives charity and conceals it so much that his left hand does not know what his
right hand spends” (Hadith)
✓ This means there should be no ostentation. The finest way of helping a widow is her
wedding with her approval as it is the Sunnah of the Prophet.
✓ They should finance the poor and support the weak. Both of them should be taken
care of, just as the Prophet (PBUH) himself did in Makkah and Madinah.

Hadith 11

Translation
‘I and the man who brings up an orphan will be in paradise like this.’ And he pointed
with his two fingers, the index finger and the middle finger.

(a) Teachings
✓ Normally orphans are those who are deprived of their parents.
✓ In the reference range of this Hadith, orphans incorporate those who is in need of
administrative care and guidance because of losing their parents or being away
from them.
✓ Islam has set very high reward for the believers in order to motivate them to treat
orphans with generosity, charity, open-handedness and kindness.
✓ It gives an assurance of greater rewards for such righteous virtues e.g gaining the
pleasure of Allah and closeness of His Messenger.
✓ It also sets such nobility side by side with the love for God: “And they feed for the
love of God, the indigent, the orphan and the captive” (76:8)
✓ Consideration and financial support of the orphan is markedly appreciated by the
Quran and Sunnah, as both guarantee enormous rewards for those who are soft-
hearted towards the orphan.
✓ This Hadith guarantees such people closeness to the Prophet in Paradise. For any
believer this is no less than a fabulous award in the Hereafter.
✓ In another Hadith the Prophet highlighted the goodness of nurturing the orphans in
the following words “The best Muslim house is that in which an orphan is well
treated and the worst Muslim house is that in which an orphan is ill treated”.
Page 15

(b) Practice
✓ Our beloved Prophet (PBUH), himself was an orphan. He would always take good
care of the orphans, poor and underprivileged people.
✓ Allah reminds him in Surah al-Duha: “Did He not find you an orphan and give you
shelter? ”
✓ He for that reason bestowed freely him love on the orphan Muslims should act in
accordance with his examples in every feasible ways.
✓ The believers should make donations in abundance for the orphanage managed and
supervised by various charity organizations.
✓ They should bring up orphan children taking into consideration the appreciation
conveyed by the Prophet, “the best Muslim house is that in which an orphan is
well treated”.
✓ The adopted orphans must be taken good care of by the adopters as their own kids.
No distinction should be drawn between orphans and own kids.
✓ Their belongings or wealth should be taken care of if left by their parents and should
be given back to them when they are grown up.
✓ Such righteous responsibilities build up the cooperative association among the
members of the Muslims inhabitants.

Hadith 12

Translation
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) sent Abu Musa
and Mu‘adh ibn Jabal to Yaman, and he sent each of them to govern a part. Then he
said: ‘Be gentle and do not be hard, and cause rejoicing and do not alienate.’

(a) Teachings
✓ This Hadith highpoints the momentousness of the duties of a Muslim governor.
✓ To be the leader, headman or king of the Muslim society, community or country is a
mountainous answerable responsibility and an enormous truss of God with them.
✓ Islam counts the Muslim ruler as the guardian of his people and accountable for
their good life and success: “Leader of the community is indeed its servant”
(Hadith) “Your best rulers are those whom you love and they love you” (Hadith)
✓ Such a great position springs from a strong perception of accountability before the
people as well as the Supreme Lord.
Page 16

✓ A genuine Muslim ruler or emperor always makes his best efforts to rule over his
people’s heart. He is always very kind, soft-hearted, gentle speaking and very close
to them in order to avoid harshness.

(b) Practice
✓ The Prophet (PBUH) , his four successors and companions placed wonderful
practice about how to behave as a ruler.
✓ They allocated their spirit and vivacity for the welfare and mutual prosperity and
wealth of their people.
✓ Muslim rulers need to follow these model rulers who ruled not only the state but
also the hearts of their subjects.
✓ They should remove all barriers that separate them form their people and should
treat them in a kind and fatherly way so that people do not fear but respect them
with sincerity.
✓ Caliph Ali remarked: “The state might survive with paganism but might not
survive with injustice”.
✓ They should ensure justice and follow this instruction of the Prophet: “Make things
easy and don’t make them hard, and cheer up people and don’t repel them”.

Hadith 13

Translation
He who studies the Qur’an is like the owner of tethered camels. If he attends to them
he will keep hold of them, but if he lets them loose they will go away

(a) Teachings
✓ Quran which is the book of guidance for believers is also a miraculous book.
✓ One of its miracles is that it is the only book that can be committed into memories.
✓ The conduct of the Muslims depends on the degree of their association with the
Quran because it is the basis of their lives.
✓ The Prophet has linked this bond with the ownership of the tethered camels.
✓ As long as the camels are supervised and kept tethered, they remain under control.
✓ Similarly, as long as a Muslim remains attached to the Quran by recitation, learning
and comprehending it, the Quran continues to benefit him; but if this relation is
weakened, the effect of the Quran gradually fades away.
✓ The Prophet admired those devoted to learning and teaching of the Quran: “The
best among you is the one who has learned the Quran and teaches it”
Page 17

(b)Practice
✓ The Muslims should encourage regular recitation and learning the Quran by heart so
that their ties with the Quran are strengthened.
✓ The more we revise it the stronger it is kept in memory, so we should never stop
revising and recollecting the memorized parts of Quran.
✓ We should develop a regular habit of revising Quran.
✓ “Keep refreshing your knowledge of the Quran for I swear by Him in whose hand
is my soul, that is the more liable to escape than camels which are tethered”
✓ The Quran should be recited in the manner prescribed by the Quran itself: “And
recite the Quran in slow, measured rhythmic tones” (73:4)
✓ Also, its message should be comprehended in order to shape our conduct according
to the Quranic command.

Hadith 14

Translation
May God show mercy to a man who is kindly when he sells, when he buys, and when
he demands his money back.

(a) Teachings
✓ Islam which is a complete religion offers guidance for every walk of life.
✓ With other social and religious laws, it also sets rules for trade and business.
✓ Economic teachings of Islam stress on honesty and justice on one hand, while mercy
and lenience on the other.
✓ Buyers and sellers should not have any intention of exploiting or cheating each
other: “One who cheats is not among us” (Hadith)
✓ Kindness in selling includes selling items with honesty and truthfulness without
hiding their defects. The Prophet (PBUH) said whoever sells anything with defect in
it which he doesn’t make known will remain hated of God.
✓ Kindness in buying includes to avoid hoarding and to avoid over bargaining.
✓ Kindness in loan dealings means creditors should believe that God alone enabled
him to be a source of helping those in need and so, he should develop spirit of
magnanimity when some needy person approaches him.

(b) Practice
✓ The Prophet conducted trade with full honesty and dedication.
✓ He would not hide defects of merchandise while selling any items.
Page 18

✓ Muslim traders should follow this and should not try to unduly maximize profits and
should not take oath while selling to convince the buyer.
✓ They should accept the sold items for return or exchange as it carries a great
reward.
✓ While buying anything, Muslims should observe some limits of bargaining so that
the seller does not feel uncomfortable and they should not bargain on Muslim
brother’s bargain while buying.
✓ A creditor should be generous enough to give any relief to the debtor because the
Prophet greatly admired such degree of kindness: “Whoever has a claim on a
brother which is payable and he allows respite to the debtor in his payment, he
will be given the reward of charity”.
✓ Islam forbids any usury and instructs to extend “the beautiful loan” (Interest-free
loan).

Hadith 15

Translation
God will not show mercy to him who does not show mercy to others

(a) Teachings
✓ Among all attributes of God, mercy is very special because according to a Hadith-i-
Qudsi:“Truly My mercy overcomes My wrath”.
✓ God, therefore, loves those who show mercy to others, and He commands the
Muslims to seek His mercy and extend mercy on others.
✓ Allah calls his Prophet (PBUH) as “mercy for all creatures” in the Quran (21:107)
✓ If someone wants to be entitled with Allah’s mercy in the hereafter, he should
maintain the spirit of mercy and compassion for fellows here in this world. The
Prophet (PBUH) encourages his companions to do so.
✓ Muslims should be merciful. They should be humble, indulgent, patient, lenient and
forgiving to others and should not bother, harm or lay a finger on them in anyway.
✓ The most ill-fated and cursed is the one who get disadvantaged and deprived of the
mercy of Allah.
✓ They should behave towards others conscientiously only for the sake of Allah and
should not look forward to the same in return.

(b)Practice
✓ We need to act in accordance with the footmarks of the Prophet(PBUH) who never
put a curse on his opponents, and insulators in Makkah, Taif or any battlefield.
Page 19

✓ The companions of the Prophet (PBUH) asked him to put a curse and damn on
Makkans on the historical occasion of the battle of Uhad, but his reply was: “I have
not been sent to curse”
✓ He benevolently acted towards the prisoners of Badr and pardoned his mortal
enemies on the fall of Makka.
✓ Mistakes should be forgiven and errors should be forgotten. It is far better to be
forgiving and merciful rather than being harsh, rude and merciless. Apologies
should be accepted immediately.
✓ Employees and servants should not be over-burdened. Muslims should have
upstanding courage of soft-heartedly forgiving the insulators as they will get huge
reward from their God in return: “Be compassionate to those on earth and He,
who is in the heavens, will be compassionate to you”.

Hadith 16

Translation
The believers are like a single man; if his eye is affected he is affected, and if his head
is affected he is all affected.

(a) Teachings
✓ For the first time in history a universal brotherhood was founded in Madinah after
Prophet’s (PBUH) migration as Allah says in the Holy Quran: “The believers are a
single brotherhood” (49:10).
✓ Without consideration of societal and geographical culture, tradition or background,
all the believers were unified as a single community.
✓ As it is a religious grouping, so all the believers are required to comply with it.
Islam’s teachings about socialization are unique and high-classed.
✓ The reason why Muslims are concerned and caring for each other’s comfort, benefit
and welfare is the common faith that leads to the consciousness of equality and
togetherness among the believers.
✓ Muslims all over the world are like a single body regardless of social and
geographical background. Any effect in any part of the body of Ummah has an equal
influence on the whole Muslim Ummah.
✓ The bonding among the Muslims is well-compared in another Hadith. The Holy
Prophet (PBUH) said,: “One believer to another is like the bricks of a building;
each one is holding and supporting the other”.
Page 20

✓ That is why the problem, sorrow or torture on any individual is felt and responded
by the Muslim Ummah and they always do their level best to relieve them of the
suffering and problems.

(b)Practice
✓ Muslims may act in accordance with this Hadith in different ways.
✓ They should be of strong opinion that their Muslims brothers are connected to them
as the part of their body. They should always be caring and attentive towards each
other’s welfare. Due to the strong collective bonding, they can be dependent on each
other.
✓ They should say ‘yes’ to their Muslims brother’s financial or physical support and
assistance when they are in need. It is a lot better than rejecting the aids in
hesitation or refusing the contribution due to modesty.
✓ The companions of the Prophet (PBUH) set a distinctive example of brotherhood as
the Ansar of Madinah accommodated the Muhajireen of Makkah by sharing all their
assets with them.
✓ For the Muslim Ummah it is easier to share their happiness, joys, problems, and
sorrows as they have unlimited opportunities to come closer to each other at the
time of congregational prayers and pilgrimage to Makkah.
✓ They should have strong intention of helping their suffering Muslim fellows in hours
of need and emergency. The Prophet linked true belief with a sense of brotherhood:
“you cannot be true believers unless there is reciprocal love among you”.
✓ They can also promote unity and oneness by collaboratively following the Quranic
guidance : “And hold fast all together the Rope of God and do not be divided”
(3:103)

Hadith 17

Translation
Modesty produces nothing but good.

(a)Teachings
✓ Modesty means unpretentiousness and decency. Ethical, virtuous and scrupulous
teachings of Islam are closely attached with modesty.
✓ Modesty initiates and broadens meritorious and righteous qualities in one’s
personality. It makes a man simple, decent and plain in his behaviour and speech.
Such qualities are indicated by the word ‘good’ in this Hadith.
Page 21

✓ Modesty is a root of strengthening faith. It leads more weight to the submission

before sacred commands. That is why it is considered as a massive barrier against
all evils and wrongdoings.
✓ The Prophet said: “Modesty and faith are companions; when one is taken away,
the other follows it” hence, modesty gives strength to faith and coexist with, and
faith, sequentially upgrades mental piousness.
✓ Mental piety indicates a Muslim’s obedience to Allah and is a medium of obtaining
His favour.
✓ Modesty acts like antiserum against sins, vices wrongdoings and disobedience to
Allah.

(b) Practice
✓ Islam teaches it followers means of perceiving modesty both towards Allah and the
individuals of the society.
✓ They should be self-conscious in their beliefs and deeds. They should always
express simplicity and decency in their speech, character, behaviour and conducts.
✓ Regular prayer successfully blocks and evades all evil thoughts and actions: “for
prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds” (29:45)
✓ Thus, a Muslim’s behaviour is mould according to the sacred instructions and
guidance.
✓ A good example of perceiving modesty is to put interest, values and preference
before one’s own interest, values and preferences: “None of you truly believes
unless he desires for his brother that what he desires for himself.” (Hadith)
✓ Such a perspective position certainly wards off evils and societal problems so that
an equitable society develops.

Hadith 18

Translation
He who has in his heart as much faith as a grain of mustard seed will not enter hell,
and he who has in his heart as much pride as a grain of mustard seed will not enter
paradise.

(a) Teachings
✓ The lowest level of faith is to accept that Allah is One, Muhammad (PBUH) is His last
Prophet and Islam is the only code of life.
Page 22

✓ The smallest volume of pride is to ponder oneself over Allah, His Messenger and His
people. Adopting pride also means to keep up with Allah in His characteristics and
distinctions.
✓ There is always a hope for a Muslim as he believes that authentic faith alone
promises a believer means of escape from the Hell and entry to Paradise.
✓ An authentic faith nurtures the attitude of obedience to the will of God and thus
overrules and denies prides.
✓ Pride is the sign of disobedience as is obvious from Satan’s denial to do what Allah
said,: “We said to angels: “Bow down to Adam”, and they all bowed down except
for Iblis; he refused and was haughty” (2:34)
✓ Entry to Paradise is forbidden if one has the least amount of pride, instead he will be
thrown into Hellfire, but a believer with the lowest degree of authentic faith will
finally be driven to paradise: “Is there not in Hell an abode for the Haughty”
(39:60)

(b) Practice
✓ In order to be worthy of God’s blessings and protect faith from pride and
boastfulness, Muslims should promote humility, humbleness and submission before
God.
✓ The Quran mentions the procedure of being humble towards Allah and the reward
of such attitude: “The believers must eventually win through. Those who humble
themselves in their prayers” (23:1, 2)
✓ There are two effective ways to control and resist pride; to strengthen a sense of
modesty and humility and to improve faith by including humbleness in our nature.
✓ Being humble and down to earth assures the pleasure of God:“for God does not love
the arrogant” (4:36)
✓ They should not anticipate to be considered selectively or to be given a celebrity
type welcome because it instills pride.
✓ Acting upon the Divine Guidance, brought to us by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the
best way of nurturing humbleness and resisting pride.

Hadith 19

Translation
The world is the believer’s prison and the unbeliever’s paradise

(a)Teachings
✓ Allah alone is the originator of the whole universe and the Hereafter.
Page 23

✓ The earth is fully furnished with fascinations, attractions and charms to examine
whether mankind is obedient to God or forget Him in beauty of this deceptive world.
✓ Prison is a place of restrictions where prisoners are dependent, helpless and bound
to do anything freely.
✓ The reason why the world has been announced a prison by Prophet (PBUH) is that
the believers are not allowed to live a liberal and unrestricted life of their own
choice.
✓ As a Prisoner cannot broaden a long-standing attachment and relationship with the
prison, similarly a believer cannot get attached and related to the world.
✓ Like, prisoner a believer has to be cramped, restricted, disciplined and
uncomplaining to achieve self-government i.e. Paradise.
✓ Paradise is a divine place where every resident will be given a vast kingdom. They
will be able to do whatever they desire.
✓ A true believer cautiously sets in motion an advance to the earthly life that the
Quran states as: “What is the life of this world but play and amusement? But best
is the home in the Hereafter.” (6:32)
✓ A non-believer prefers and loves the earthly life and thus he is fully convinced by the
short-term glow of this world and denies the Hereafter, whereas the believer
strongly believes in the everlasting joys and happiness of the Hereafter.

(b)Practice
✓ A stalwart faith in the temporariness of this world and immortality of the life after
death is revealed by a believer’s acceptance and obedience to Allah’s will: “Say ‘I
believe in God and then act uprightly.” (Hadith)
✓ The believer should always be concentrated towards the life after death. They
should spend this life be implementing God’s instructions and commands and by
being regulated and obedient like a prisoner.
✓ They live in this world feeling uneasy as if they are detainees, strangers or
wayfarers. While the non-believers are in every way occupied and fascinated in this
world The Prophet (PBUH) said,: “Live in this world as if you were a stranger or a
wayfarer” the believers are always engrossed in spending their lives according to
rulers and regulations announced by Almighty Allah. They consider their lives as a
cultivating ground the outcome of which will be awarded in the Hereafter: “This
world is a seedbed for the Hereafter” (Hadith)
✓ They adopt simplicity in their temporary life and do not allow deep affection of the
world to take place in their hearts.
✓ They uncomplainingly put up with the difficulties, sorrows, grievances and pain of
this life considering it as an assessment during their short-term life.

Hadith 20

Translation
God does not look at your forms and your possessions, but he looks at your hearts
and your deeds.

(a) Teachings
✓ This Hadith unambiguously announces the specification by which Allah judges
deeds, manners and activities.
✓ No matter how much we camouflage ourselves, Allah can see the intention behind
every action. He does not look at external appearance or earthly achievements made
by a person.
✓ Allah knows whatever is in the hearts of humans. He simply considers the ambitions
and aims behind the actions because it is stated in another Hadith by The Holy
Prophet (PBUH) that: “Actions are judged by intentions”.
✓ Allah is not in need of anything. He is so supreme and high that everything is
valueless in His eyes because he is “Lord of all the worlds” and “He knows secrets
of hearts.” That is why outer appearance or camouflage does not make any
difference. It is only intention that is strongly considered by Him.
✓ That is the reason why the true believers always try to act in accordance with the
teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah with sincerity of intention.
✓ The reason why Almighty Allah does not judge people on limited or unlimited
belongings and property is that all earthly belongings and valuables are granted by
Him, so He does not need it.
✓ He judges man on the base of man’s inner attributes and mannerism in his conducts
and behaviours i.e. his consciousness and determinations.

(b) Practice
✓ The believers should make every effort to spend a virtuous and ethical life rather
than paying attention to material gains only.
✓ Their intention must be pleasing God by good deeds by acting in accordance with
the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah since this alone can guarantee success in the
Hereafter. We must remember that Allah does not need our good deeds; rather it is
our need to perform them.
✓ They should reject any form or degree of hypocrisy or showing off and develop
sincerity of faith and intention, keeping in mind: “Whether you hide whatever is in
your hearts or reveal it, God knows it all.” (3:29)
✓ They should do all noble deeds with the pure intention of earning God’s pleasure,
however these deeds might seem to others.
✓ They should not offer good deeds to be seen by people and to be pretentious.
