A Rewind of the Year

2023- 2024
By Hamza Ahmad Khan, Deputy Director English Literary
Club
A list of few Achievements from the Year
2023-2024:
1. Participated and achieved in a magnitude of events:
 GRAMMUN
 Scienject 3.0
 ACLLF 2023
 Studio 55
 FORMUN
 World Scholar’s Cup 2024
Won at these events:
 Runner’s Up for “Poetic Pulse” at “Studio 55”
where I represented LGS Gulberg Team B, and was
the sole writer for the delegation B.
 Won 2 Silver Medals and 1 Gold Medal at World
Scholar’s Cup
Furthermore, I participated in my first MUN this year,
GRAMMUN.
2. Wrote and shared over 200 poems throughout the
year from 2023-2024 over my writing page at
Instagram.

Future Prospects for the Year 2024-2025

1. Poetry Book:
Currently, I’ve finalized a poetry book which will be
published by “Newlines Publications” and will be
distributed by “Readings.” By August, I will receive the
initial 300 copies of the book, some of which I’ll be
distributing myself via school events. I plan on hosting
assemblies and promotional meetings and book-signing
events at LGS Gulberg. I aim to not only encourage other
students to write and pursue English with the same
passion that I have for the subject, but also to inspire my
peers, especially with the current lack of attention given
to poetry in particular. I have forwarded a copy of the
manuscript to both Ms. Irum and Ms. Sana respectively.
2. Scienject 4.0
Last year, I was a delegate for Scienject 3.0, and
witnessed firsthand the incredible experience my friends
and peers gained by becoming an integral part of the
management. This year, I plan on becoming a team
member for the Publications Department, and have
expressed my wishes to Ms. Sana and Sir Ghulam
Dastigir, both of whom have given me a positive
response. I believe I can provide invaluable advice to the
department, and play an integral role in the Publications
Department.
3. Leading Literary Events and Guiding Grade 9 th and
10th
This year, I’d like to lead delegations in the esteemed
events our school sends delegations to annually, such as
ACLLF, which I attended first in 2022, and then again in
2023. My seniors have played a pivotal role in my extra-
curricular activities, they have pushed me beyond my
comfort zone. Under their guidance I found confidence
and would love to provide the same support to my juniors
that my seniors provided me with. Furthermore, I’d like
our school to attend more literary events. There has been
a lack of extra-curriculars regarding English and
languages in general. Promoting attendance in more
events is a crucial for growing the English Literary Club
as a whole.
4. An Inter-Class Event for O Levels
I have provided Ms. Sana with a proposal for an event
for O Levels to promote readership amongst my peers
and juniors alike. In recent years, social media has
proven to be a detrimental force for entertainment
sources such as film, drama, literature and art. However,
by encouraging readership, not only will we be educating
students within the immerse landscape of literature with
authors like George Orwell, but we will also give
students the opportunities to pen down their own feelings
with the incredible methods of expression such as poetry
and prose. I have also provided the same proposal here
beneath this page, and would love to work on it with the
school, as an effort to bridge the literary gap.
Rust of Pages
By Hamza Ahmad Khan 11B
Information:
This is made to be an optional event that spans over a
time period of two days. Each delegation would be
allowed to send a maximum of 4 delegates for Round 1,
and a maximum of 2 delegates for Round 2.

A Week Prior to the Event:

 A short story would be unveiled to the delegations.
They would have to read the story and study it’s
themes and character arcs and plot points.
 Delegations who wish to participate in this
category would be asked to go through the short
story, study it’s themes, character arcs, plot
narratives, and analyze the entire story.
 A day before the event, delegations will be asked to
submit an introspective analysis of the short story,
similar to a book review, where they can talk about
what they enjoyed about the short story, what they
disliked etc. This would be purely optional, but
would be handful later on.

Day 1 | Round 1: A Catharsis

 As the category would begin, delegations would be
handed sheets of paper and as the category would
begin. The delegates will be asked to write an essay
about the short story, it’s themes and characters.
 The round would span around 2 hours where the
delegations will be attempting the questions about
the short story. The questions would be related to
the theme and character arcs in the book. As well
as specific plot points of the story.
 Each delegation would only have to attempt the
questions corresponding to the book they were
assigned. In the PDF File, it would be made clear,
which delegation has to attempt which question, in
case of confusion.
 After the two hours, the answers sheets would be
handed back to the category head and will be
judged until the day 2 for the event.
 This would be an elimination round. The top 10
qualifying teams would be eligible to attend Round
2.
 The answers would be judged on a basis of how
much knowledge does the delegate possess over
their assigned book and how they analyze different
character arcs.
 The teams who had presented their reviews prior to
the event would gain extra marks and thus would
have more chances for qualifying to Round 2.

Prior to Day 2:
 In the Whatsapp group, the list of the qualifying
teams would be shared, this will be to ensure no
confusion occurs in the attendance during Round 2.

Day 2 | Round 2: Important Men Think Important

Thoughts
 The qualifying delegations would be seated in a
room where they will present themselves before the
Chairman [Director of “Rust of Pages”].
 The Chairman would hand them each a piece of a
specific booklet. In this booklet, there would be
two sets of flashcards. The first set of flashcards
would have names of certain characters and events.
The second set of flashcards would be opened
during the interval.
 Delegates would be given 20 minutes to recount
the event they were assigned from the point of view
of the character they were assigned which occurred
in a story. This character would not be the main
character/speaker/narrator of the story. The length
of this event recount must be no shorter than 500
words, or the delegation would be marked
negatively.
 As delegates hit the 10-minute interval mark, they
would each be presented with 2 cards, one marked
with a clock and the other marked with a book.
 The clock flashcard would increase the delegates’
time to 10 more minutes, and the book flashcard
would give the delegates an access to the short
story via PDF.
 However, if 5 delegations raise the clock flashcard,
and 5 delegations raise the book flashcard, which
would result in a draw, then neither of these
benefits would be implemented, and the
delegations would have to continue.
 This round will be judged based on two factors,
how authentic was the recount and how closely did
the delegations follow the voice of the character
they were assigned.
 The category would end after this and results
would be announced on the next day in a morning
assembly.
