Using the CPM method, we determined 2 Critical Paths. Since both critical path suggests that the Project
“BUP Food Festival” is most likely to be finished in 59 Days, We are using Program Evaluation and
Review Technique (PERT), to determine the probability that this project can be completed under 60
Days or in 59 Days.

For Critical Path 1

The project completion time follows a probability distribution. To find the probability of finishing the
project under 60 days, we need to calculate the project mean and variance using PERT (Program
Evaluation and Review Technique). To do this, we need the optimistic time (o), most likely time (m),
and pessimistic time (p) for each activity in the critical path. The critical path is A-B-E-F-G-H-O-P-Q-
R-U-V-W-X, with a duration of 59 days.

We will assume the duration of each activity on the critical path represents the most likely time (m).
We will then estimate the optimistic (o) and pessimistic (p) times for each activity using the following
assumptions:

 Optimistic Time (o): The minimum possible time to complete an activity, assuming everything
goes perfectly. We will assume this is 15% less than the most likely time (m).
 Pessimistic Time (p): The maximum possible time to complete an activity, assuming
significant delays or problems. We will assume this is 15% more than the most likely time (m).

With these estimates, we can calculate the mean and variance for each activity, and then the overall
project mean and variance. Finally, we can use these values to determine the probability of completing
the project in under 60 days.

A 8 6.8 9.2 7.8 0.16
B 7 5.95 8.05 6.95 0.12

X 1 0.85 1.15 1 0.03

Here,

 m = Most likely time
 o = Optimistic time
 p = Pessimistic time
 te = Expected time = (o + 4m + p) / 6
 Variance = ((p - o) / 6)^2

Path Mean: 58.6

Path Variance: 1.64

Path Standard Deviation: 1.28

Z-score: (60 - 58.6) / 1.28 = 1.09

Using a standard normal distribution table or calculator, the probability of a Z-score being less than
1.09 is approximately 0.86. Therefore, the probability of completing the project following Critical
Path A-B-E-F-G-H-O-P-Q-R-U-V-W-X in under 60 days is approximately 86%.

For Critical Path 2

To find the probability of finishing the project under 60 days, we need to calculate the project mean and
variance using PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique). To do this, we need the optimistic
time (o), most likely time (m), and pessimistic time (p) for each activity in the critical path. The critical
path is C-D-E-F-G-H-O-P-Q-R-U-V-W-X , with a duration of 59 days.

Similar to Critical Path 1, we will assume the duration of each activity on the critical path represents
the most likely time (m). We will then estimate the optimistic (o) and pessimistic (p) times for each
activity using the following assumptions:

 Optimistic Time (o): The minimum possible time to complete an activity, assuming everything
goes perfectly. We will assume this is 15% less than the most likely time (m).
 Pessimistic Time (p): The maximum possible time to complete an activity, assuming
significant delays or problems. We will assume this is 15% more than the most likely time (m).

 m = Most likely time

 o = Optimistic time
 p = Pessimistic time
 te = Expected time = (o + 4m + p) / 6
 Variance = ((p - o) / 6)^2

Path Mean: 58.6

Path Variance: 1.97

Path Standard Deviation: 1.4

Z-score: (60 - 58.6) / 1.4 = 1

Using a standard normal distribution table or calculator, the probability of a Z-score being less than 1 is
approximately 0.84. Therefore, the probability of completing the project following Critical Path C-D-
E-F-G-H-O-P-Q-R-U-V-W-X in under 60 days is approximately 84%

Non Critical Activities Using Slack

The project has two critical paths, both with a duration of 59 days. This means the project can be
completed in 59 days if all activities on either of the critical paths are completed on time. Any delay in
these activities will delay the entire project.

We went ahead and found the non-critical activities with varying degrees of slack. This slack
represents the amount of time these activities can be delayed without affecting the project's overall
completion time. For example, activity L has a slack of 27 days, meaning it can be delayed by up to 27
days without impacting the project's completion.
