Philosophy, criticism and Architecture
Why Philosophy is important for
Architecture criticism.
Philosophers tend to use building as an
example for their method of developing
arguments and discourse.
Modern architecture was based upon a
rational movement
Postmodern architects are trying to
establish a metaphor to validate their
theoretical tools of design.
Both architects and philosophers both
trying to solve the problems of knowledge
history and language
Philosophers see a kind of similarity
between Philosophy and Architecture
The impact of enlightenment Age on criticisms
((Enlightenment is a rejection of instructions, traditions,
authorities, and social structures)).
The Age of Enlightenment; is an intellectual
and philosophical movement

Enlightenment is a rejection of instructions,

traditions, authorities, and social structures.

It was a time of increasing awareness of the

implications of rationality.

The practices in a certain field of human

activity need to be rationally justified.
They will not be realistic if they are not in
match with the newly emerging science.
Rena Descartes philosophy and the impact on
criticisms
, I think; therefore, I am (I think; therefore
I exist ) this statement appear in 1637 in a
word by Rena Descartes
It becomes the first metaphysics principle
of philosophy
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that
critique the fundamental nature of reality.
Metaphysics is the relationship between
mind and matter, substance and element, and
between potential and actual. (Between
concept and form)
what is undoubtedly truth more than
metaphysic of thinking? I think, so I am
excited about being confident.
Critical Problems
Descartes in his statement create
another question in metaphor, a problem
of the relationship between objective
judgment and subjective judgment

If I am thinking, I must think about

something; I can not think about nothing.

In architecture, all these questions even

now, still have a wide range of debates.

Question of the relationship between

concept and form .
Question of the relationship between
the metaphysic and metaphor .
