Where first-gen students thrive
UC is committed to enrolling first-generation students and helping them excel once
they get here. In fact, 37% of UC undergrads are among the first in their families to
attend college, a higher share than at any other selective institution in the country.
And first-gen students thrive at UC, graduating at high rates and out-earning their
parents within five years of their degree.

The community college pipeline
Nearly one in three undergrads comes to UC from a community college — a higher
share than any other comparable institution in the country. And transfer students do
very well at UC, graduating at even higher rates than their peers who start as
freshmen and going on to excel in the professional world.

Lifting up Californians
UC has increased the share of California resident students across its nine
undergraduate schools to 83.4 percent. Our student body represents the vibrant
diversity of our state, and special programs and funding for undocumented students,
Native Americans, foster youth, veterans, parents and other underrepresented groups
ensure that everyone has a chance to learn at the highest levels.

The journey to UC
From investing in intensive outreach programs in the far north of the state to
establishing a new pilot program for community college transfers at UCLA, UC is
working to expand the numbers of transfer students on its campuses.

students. Today, the UC system has more than 295,000 students and 265,000 faculty and
staff, with 2.0 million alumni living and working around the world.
