Animating Your Slides

Transitions aren’t the only things that can make your slide show interesting. You can also use
different elements or the things that make up your slides that you create.

What Is a Slide Element?

If you click on something in your slide—say, the title, or the part where you have typed in some words—
you will notice a box appear around it. The box will have four small squares and four small circles. This is
a single element of your slide.

When you animate the elements of your slide, you must make sure to click on these elements so that you
can apply animation to these.

Animating Your Text and Picture Slide Elements

How can you animate a text or picture slide? It’s easy enough!
1. Click on the element that you want to animate.
2. In the Animation group under the Animations tab, click on one of the animation effects displayed. You
may also click on the drop-down arrow for more selections. You can see a preview of the effect by
pointing your mouse pointer over its icon.
3. If you want to modify the animation effect you selected, click on the Effect Options button.

There are also other animation effects besides those found in the Animation group. In the Add Animation
button beside Effect Options, you will see several choices at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Clicking
on one of these choices will give you more effects to choose from.
4. You can change the order in which different animated elements of a slide appear. Notice that a number
appears beside a slide element once you have selected an animation effect. The numbers show the order
in which the effects will appear in the slide show.
To change the order of a slide element, click on it, then click Move Earlier or Move Later in the Timing
Group, also under the Animation tab. The numbers will change accordingly.

Running Your Slide Show

Now that you’ve made your slide, added the slide transitions, and animated your elements, it’s time to run
your presentation!

Click on the Slide Show tab, then go to From Beginning under the Start Slide Show group.

Click on it, and enjoy the presentation you just made! Make sure you click on your mouse button to move
from one slide to the next.
Congratulations! You have just finished making your first slide presentation!
