Aim of the experiment:

The aim of this experiment is to work out the velocity at the apogee (the highest point of the
trajectory).
To achieve that we followed the method below:

Method:
We first made paper rockets using a plumbing pipe and paper + card. I made the mistake of wrapping
the paper around the pipe meaning I could not take out the rocket. The pipe is meant to be used as a
structural support. For future I will make sure to thoroughly understand the instructions before
carrying out anything.
We then went outside with an air pump and a steel structure which contained a valve and a lever
which retained the air pressure. It has a pipe sticking out identical to the structural support when
building the rocket. We slide the rocket into the pipe and on the count of 3 open the lever, which
then causes the rocket to take flight.

Analysis:
My rocket, which was taped to the structural support was deemed unsuable, and I had to use a spare
rocket which was not built to a good quality, and as expected my rocket did not have the results
everyone else had. Hence I will use generic results which are assumed to be 8 seconds instead of
2.05 which I had.

Since the rocket was launched at an angle, I will calculate the vertical component:
To calculate vertical component:

1. Calculate angle into radians:

Assume at 45 degrees, then pie/4 radians

2. Use the formula t = 2 x u x sin(theta) / g

solving for u: g x t / 2 x sin (theta)

sub the values to get 55.43 m/s

3. Calculate vertical component:

55.43 x sin (pie/4)
= 39.21 m/s.
However one error we made in this experiment was that we fired the rocket at an angle
instead of straight up, which messed up our aim and calculations.

For the future I will:

1. Follow instructions properly and take 5 minutes to absorb the knowledge
2. Research the methods and the principles behind it
3. Be prepared for the lesson
