Problem (1)
A Gravity wall is constructed to retain layers of sand as shown in figure (1). It is required
to check the overall stability of the wall against sliding and overturning and check the
bearing stress if allowable bearing capacity is 30 t/m2 (γRC = 2.5 t/m3).

A Plain concrete gravity wall is constructed to retain a layer of sand as shown in figure
(2). It is required to estimate the preliminary dimensions then check the overall stability
of the wall against sliding and overturning and check the bearing stress if allowable
bearing capacity is 32 t/m2 (γpc = 2.23.00t/m 3
