Experiment No. 03
Block Diagram Simulation using Scilab XCOS

Name: Year & Section:

Group No.:

I. Objective:
 To learn to use SCILAB XCOS function
 To learn to use SCILAB to generate Transfer function using Scilab XCOS

II. Health and Safety:

Any laboratory environment may contain conditions that are potentially
hazardous to a person’s health if not handled appropriately. The Engineering
laboratories obviously have electrical potentials that may be lethal and must
be treated with respect. In addition, there are also mechanical hazards,
particularly when dealing with rotating machines, and chemical hazards
because of the materials used in various components. Our LEARNING
OUTCOME is to educate all laboratory users to be able to handle laboratory
materials and situations safely and thereby ensure a safe and healthy
experience for all.

III. Background:

Xcos is a Scilab toolbox for modeling and simulation of dynamic (continuous

and discrete) systems. Although the main purpose is to simulate dynamic
systems, Xcos can be used for signal generation, data visualization or simple
algebraic operations.
When dealing with systems with interconnected continuous-time and
discrete- time components,
Xcos is the right tool for modeling and simulation. Xcos provides a modular
approach for complex system modeling, using a block diagram editor. Xcos
models are compiled and simulated in a single run. The resulting
mathematical equations are integrated by a numerical solver with
configurable parameters.
With Scilab opened, you can launch Xcos in several ways:

 by clicking the toolbar icon

 from the menu bar, by clicking Applications -> Xcos
 by entering at the Scilab console: xcos

1. Create the Block Diagram using the SCILAB XCOS
Note: Explore the SCILAB XCOS ICON. Example: in the Pallete Browsers in
Mathematical Operation you can find the SUMMATION and SUM_f.

2. Execute and plot the graph for the following conditions of Gains
a. Gain 1 = 1; Gain 2 = 1; Gain 3 = 1

What did you observe on the Graph?

4. Click the Simulation icon, then replace the SET Parameters for Final
Integration Time

New Setting:
Final Integration Time = 30;
The Gain Setting:
Gain 1 = 1; Gain 2 = 0; Gain 3 = 1

Simulate and plot the graph
