using Meyerhof formula:
Qa = ( C×NC + 1/2×γ2×B×Nr + γ1×Df×Nq ) / FS
Allowable bearing capacity
check of ground

Qa = ( C×NC + 1/2×γ2×B×Nr + γ1×Df×Nq ) / FS

Qa = ( 10×46.1 + 1/2×8×7×37.1 + 10×1×33.3) / 3
Qa = ( 461.0 + 1038.8+ 333) / 3
Qa = 610.93 kN/m2

DESIGN OF FOOTING ON
PILES
Design a footing supported by piles to carry a
dead load of 625 KN and a live load of 800KN.
The allowable ultimate load per pile is 300KN
and working load is 180 KN. The column size is
450x450mm. Use C25, fck = 20 MPa concrete
grade, fy = 300 MPa.
If allowable shear, Vc = 0.44MPa,
fctk = 1.3MPa, YC = 1.5, YS = 1.15. Use 20mmØ
bar size for footing. Use N= 40 taken from SPT.
Use FS(factor of safety) = 3.

• Assume weight of footing,
8% = 0.08 (625 + 800) KN = 114 KN
Total Load = 114 + 625 + 800 = 1539 KN

• No of Piles Required = Total Load / 180KN

• Try 300 mmɸ PHC Pile , N = 40
• Compute Bearing Capacity
• Qa = (Qb + Qs) / FS
• Qb = 40x N x Ap x 400 x N x Ap
• Qs = fs x As
• Qb, end bearing
• Qs, skin friction
• Ap, closing area(area of pile section) in m2
= π D2 / 4
• Lb , total penetration depth of pile in
homogeneous soil (ex, hard rock) in meter
• B, pile diameter in meter
• fs, 2N ; N, number of blows from SPT
• As, frictional area = π D x L
• Qb = 40x N x Ap x = 40 X 40 X (π 0.32 / 4) X

• Qb = 373.33KN < 400 N Ap , OK!

• 400 N Ap = 400 x 40 x (π 0.32 / 4) = 1120 KN

• Qs = fs x As = 2(40) x 9.42 = 753.98KN
