CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

The purposes of the this section include but not limited to the following:

● Building importance of the topic in the field or locale of the study

● Generalizing what other researchers have done

● Identifying the gap in the literature or what we know

● Stating the purpose of the study in line with the gap

● Outlining the succeeding parts of the chapter

Statement of the Problem

This section states the general problem and the specific research questions. See

the example at the end of this template.

Significance of the Study

This section enumerates the people or group of people or a specific field that will

benefit from the study. See the example.

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The purpose of this section is to describe the coverage of the study in terms of

variables and other aspects of the study. It allows the readers to apply the findings of the

study carefully. It also explains what the research will do and not do.
2

Definition of Terms

This section gives the definition of variables of interests, jargons, and other

important terms in chapter 1. The first definition is the conceptual definition, followed by

its operational definition.

CHAPTER II

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

<introductory paragraph>

Relevant Theories

This section explains how the selected theories will be used in the study. This

section may answer the following guide questions:

1. Will it be used in interpreting the results? Will it be tested?

2. Why is the theory appropriate?

3. What studies have used this theory? How is your study different from others’?

Related Literature

This section explains what others have written about your topic (both local and

foreign studies). This may mean answering the following guide questions:

1. What did others say about this topic?

2. How did others define this topic? How is your definition different?

3. Summarize what has been said/thought/done about the topic. Then, answer where

your study stands.

4. Is there a gap in the literature? How will your study fill this gap?

*Note: literature means you read sources such as books, blogs, magazines, memos, news,

seminar proceedings, etc.

Related Studies

Combination of local and foreign research articles (usually published in journals)

The studies will be summarized here. The purpose of the section is to highlight key

findings of other studies. Then, identify the gap in their works in which your study will
4

answer/solve/fill. Usually, the gaps can be identified by looking at variables, methods,

samples, and settings of the research.

Conceptual Framework

This section illustrates the trajectory of your study. It highlights the variables of interests

and their assumed relationship(s).

According to (Swaen & George, 2024):

A conceptual framework illustrates the expected relationship between your

variables. It defines the relevant objectives for your research process and maps

out how they come together to draw coherent conclusions.

framework/

Hypotheses of the Study

This section states the null and alternative hypothesis.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

<introductory paragraph>

Methods and Techniques of the Study

This section explains WHAT your research design is, WHY will you use it, and

HOW will you use this.

Population and Sample of the Study

This section describes your population and sample, what sampling technique did

you use, why did you use this sampling technique. Always justify your actions either by

citing others studies that have done the same or by using logical explanation.

Research Instruments

It answers the following:

1. What data collection tools did you use?

2. Why did you use them in relation to the nature of your data?

3. Are they adapted or created?

4. If created, how did you ensure its validity?

Data Gathering Procedure

It clearly explains the steps you did or will do in your study. Consider the guide

questions:

1. How did you secure consents and permits from the concerned individuals?

2. How did you collect the data?

3. How did you ensure minimum bias (response and experimenter) in data

collection?
6

Data Processing and Statistical Treatment

This section explains the following:

1. What statistical analysis will you use or did you use?

2. Why did you use this statistical analysis?

3. How did you use this statistical analysis?
