The Role of Gut Microbiota in Regulating Immune Responses

Abstract:
This research investigates the connection between gut microbiota composition and
immune system function. By analyzing fecal samples from 500 healthy individuals and
200 patients with autoimmune diseases, the study identified a significant reduction
in the diversity of gut bacteria in patients compared to healthy controls.
Specifically, a lower abundance of Bacteroides fragilis was linked to increased
levels of inflammatory markers such as IL-6 and TNF-α. The findings suggest that
restoring gut microbial diversity through dietary interventions or probiotics may
modulate immune responses and reduce the risk of autoimmune disorders. Future
research should focus on the development of personalized microbiome therapies for
immune-related diseases.
