4:1. The pinion and gear are made of carbon heat treated forged steel with allowable
static stress of 220.6 MPa and BHN 300. Take Service factor = 1.5, Lubrication
factor=1.15, Dynamic factor=551.65. Determine:
i. Module
ii. Face width
iii. Dynamic load
iv. Pitch circle diameter of both pinion and gear

2. A pair of straight teeth spur gears is to transmit 50 kW of power, pinion rotates at 800
rpm. The velocity ratio is 4:1. The pinion has 25 teeth and its face width is 20times the
module. The allowable design stress for pinion and gear are 140MPa and 120MPa
respectively. Determine: (i) Module (ii) Face width

3. A hardened steel worm rotating at 1680 rpm transmits 30 kW to a phosphors – bronze

gear with a Transmission ratio 20:1. The centre distance is 225 mm and teeth have
20 0 involutes form. Design the whole drive.

4. A pair of 20o Stub teeth involute profile is required to transmit 25 kW of power at 1600
rpm of pinion. The speed reduction ratio is 4:1.The pinion is made of steel having static
stress 220.6 and BHN 300 whereas gear is made of steel having static stress 138.3 and
BHN 180.The number of teeth’s on pinion is 18 and module is 4.5, Design the gear
